Relational-Cultural theory (RCT) proposes that all people grow through and toward relationships throughout the lifespan. RCT challenges prevailing theories that depict the "separate self" as the hallmark of maturity. Rather than movement toward autonomy and separation, RCT suggests we develop ever more differentiated ways of connecting. An increase in growth-fostering relationships results in: a sense of vitality and zest; increasing clarity about ourselves and others; augmented creativity and ability to take action; an experience of worth and empowerment; and a desire for more connectedness with others. Disconnections are inevitable in relationships and RCT focuses on relational resilience, the ways people can re-establish positive and growth-fostering relationships. RCT further emphasizes the importance of cultural and societal forces in causing either growth-fostering connection or destructive disconnection. This volume explores the process of change in therapy and in other relationships; how race and other forms of stratification create pain; and how people develop resilience and strength in relationships characterized by mutuality. This book was based on a special issue of Women and Therapy.

Stop pursuing happiness and discover the joy of being fully alive through authentic, vulnerable connection. This inspirational, life-changing book reveals how most of our struggles in life are relationship struggles. Depression, anxiety, mental and physical illness, low self-esteem, high divorce rates, and all the myriad ways we explain our pain are more a result of lack of real relationships. We don't know how to connect, and the ways we go about attempting to do so often contribute to the problem. We hide, pretend and defend instead of being real. Connection is the doorway to being fully alive, and it is only one vulnerable step away in any given moment. In this book, Duane and Catherine take the reader through an intimate journey using exercises and examples from their personal and professional lives. Practical tools are shared, including 5 skills of emotional responsibility, and the 4 step 'getting real' process to correct the self-limiting beliefs and feelings that are at the root of our relationship dilemmas. This book provides a road map back to a fully connected life for all of those who have suffered in isolation.

Power of Connection, the book itself focuses on the importance of connection within us and with to the outer world. Unless we are not connected internally and externally we will not able to leave our life fully. Here in this book discussed how we will connect ourselves and how we will connect to the outer world and its importance to raising in life as connected. Your competition is not other people but the time you kill, the ill will you create, the knowledge you neglect to learn, the connections you fail to build, the health you sacrifice along the path, your inability to generate ideas, the people around you who don't support and love your efforts, and whatever god you curse for your bad luck. -James Altucher

In life, there are many things we cannot control, leaving us feeling powerless and defeated. However, what you can control is how you deal with your emotions. In The Power of Connection, psychologist Dr. Bea Mackay explores mental health by teaching you how to process your emotions in your dayto-day life. To process any unpleasant/intense emotion— whether it be fear or stress—the key is to breathe through the sensations of the emotion. Breathing will allow you to synthesize logical thinking and sensory experience, creating new neural pathways, which precipitate new/different sensations that are pleasant, healing, and calming. A balance of analysis and real-life stories, The Power of Connection is the perfect resource for anyone motivated to deal with their emotions during turbulent times, specifically during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Mackay also teaches you how to cope with your current stressful situation or any past trauma. Through this book’s exercises, you will change the way you approach your mental health by learning all about your emotional functioning. In the end, you will live a better, healthier, and fuller life when you reconnect with your emotions and yourself.
