Reaching Reluctant Young Readers features 150 middle-grade books. Each profiled title has the potential to hook the reluctant reader and lure them to read the entire book. To specifically encourage elementary and middle-school-age reluctant children to read, there is first a pitch to get the reader’s attention. That is followed by a short reading passage to “set the hook” and encourage the young person to read the rest of the book on their own. Further, the book contains several hundred additional recommended titles. The books selected for this collection were chosen following the criteria of reluctant reader books created by the Quick Picks committee sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association. While these guidelines were designed for young adult books, they also work well for middle-grade books. The criteria include: clear writing (no convoluted long sentences with sophisticated vocabulary), high interest “hook” in the first few pages, well-defined characters, interesting plot, and familiar themes.

This third edition of this reference on the nervous system of the rat has been extensively updated and new chapters have been added. The text is now aligned with the data available in "The Rat Brain in Stereotactic Coordinates", 4th edition.

Atlas of the Neonatal Rat Brain provides photographic, histological illustrations of the anatomical features of the neonatal rat brain at postnatal (P) days P-1, P-7, and P-14. The sections are Nissl stained with Cresyl violet, creating photomicrographs with high resolution and clarity. The structures are directly labeled on the images, making it easier to correlate data. Additional images are available as electronic resources for individuals who seek images not represented in this volume, and the electronic version allows labels to be removed so the atlas can be used as a teaching tool. The P-1 section contains 30 coronal plates and 14 sagittal plates and the P-7 section includes 27 coronal plates and 24 sagittal plates. The final P-14 section shows 41 coronal plates and 21 sagittal plates. Each set consists of contiguous sections from individual animals, and selections were based on the structural variability represented.
