The Safe Drinking Water Act

This new book covers drinking water regulations such as disinfectant by-products, synthetic organics, inorganic chemicals, microbiological contaminants, volatile organic chemicals, radionuclides, fluoride, toxicological approaches to setting new national drinking water regulations, and trihalomethanes. In addition, organic and inorganic compounds scheduled to be regulated in 1989 and new candidates for the 1990s regulations are detailed.

Much progress has been made in assuring the quality of public water supplies since the SDWA was first enacted in 1974. However, an array of issues remain. In the aftermath of the Walkerton inquiry, the Ontario government enacted three new statutes related to water safety and sustainability: The Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002; The Nutrient Management Act, 2002; and The Sustainable Water and Sewage Systems Act, 2002. These Acts will have significant implications for both municipal and environmental lawyers, as well as municipalities and water and waste management professionals when they come into force.
