The Sworn Book was a medieval book of spells which although contained the description of these apparitions, left the reader guessing as to their visual representation. Therefore, this book was created as a helpful guide to their appearance. Each spirit is carefully illustrated in accordance with the Sworn book and the imagination of the artist. The eastern and western ones are good and helpful, but the northern and southern ones are wild and harmful. This can be seen even in their appearance. Each spirit King has his subordinates, which create an entire system of hierarchy. All of the spirits move differently and each one provokes a different phenomenon when they appear.

First published in 1915. The author believed this book was written through the inspirational spirit of the well-known writer, Samuel L. Clemens-"Mark Twain"-who supposedly contacted her at a séance and told her he would give her the words to write. In her introduction she claims he had given her encouragement during the writing of the book and promised to write many more for her. This reprint includes the six original illustrations.

He mentioned it constantly, but He never gave any description of its joys or pleasures, of what they were to consist, or with whom partaken. The only allusion to the happiness of Heaven in the Scriptures is in the text: "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of Man the things which God hath prepared for them who love Him." If the disciples were left without a more particular knowledge of the glories of Heaven, why should we degenerate mortals expect to enjoy a further revelation? And again, you may hold converse with a dozen spirits and each one may come from a different sphere. "In my Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you." The spirits which come from the lower spheres know no more than ourselves, with the exception of the blessed truth that there is no death. They smile at our innate fear of death, for though with them to ascend to a higher sphere entails a sleep like death, having once passed through it they think no more of it than we do of lying down in our beds after a long day's work.
