The classic space hero from the 1950s returns in an all-new, four-issue limited series. Long before Kirk, Spock and those other guys were sent to school, Tom Corbett, Roger Manning and Astro were attending Space Academy, in a TV series that sparked novels, comic strips and a wide variety of merchandise. Tom is the charismatic leader of the team; Roger is sharp-tongued navigator and Astro controls engineering. In this issue, the cadets have their first encounter with a dangerous new enemy with a surprising origin. Writer by Bill Spangler, author of such science fiction comics as Alien Nation: The Spartans and Robotech: The Malcontent Uprisings, returns to these fan favorites, with dynamic art by John DaCosta.

Classic Science Fiction at its best! Originally published in 1952, The Tom Corbett adventures by Carey Rockwell paved the way for the way for the sci-fi books and movies of the 1950's and 60's. Put modern science on the back shelf and blast off at "full space speed" in this, the first, installment that follows the adventures of three cadets as they rocket into space. Remember when rockets were shaped like javelins with fins and being a "space cadet" was a good thing? Revisit the days when spaceships were piloted "by the seat of the pants." When women scientists invented the hyper-drive. When space cadets saved the solar system without the help of their senior officers. Come back, in short, to the glory days of Tom Corbett, Space Cadet! The cadets, Tom, Roger and Astro were always in trouble with their commanding officers, even though the cadets had braved dangerous assignments and the everyday hazards of space flight. Over and over the cadets are on the carpet trying to prove they were innocent of any wrong doing. Roger had a knack for getting the unit into trouble, which would require them to work as a team and prove their innocence. Join them on their first mission as they Stand By For Mars!

Starting with the February, 1946 issue, every issue of the Captain Marvel Adventures comic book included a 2-page short story by "Eando Binder" (Otto O. Binder). All featured Lt. Jon Jarl of the Space Patrol. These juvenile space operas — designed to appeal to kids — featured the daring adventures of a two-fisted young member of the Space Patrol. In a solar system where seemingly every planet and moon can support life (and the asteroid belt harbors numerous space pirates and criminals), Jon Jarl always seems to save the day. If you've seen the early TV adventures of Captain Video and His Video Rangers, Space Patrol, or Tom Corbett, Space Cadet—which were clearly influenced by Binder's writing (as well as the shared universe of "space opera" that had been developed in Amazing Stories magazine under editor Ray Palmer) — you will know what you're in for...a ride into the Wild West of outer space, where physics and logic never get in the way of a good story!

Nella Larsen (1891–1964) was an author of mixed race who wrote from the 1920s through 1930. She is considered part of the Harlem Renaissance, even though she was raised by her White mother and White stepfather. Issues of race and identity permeate her fiction. Her small literary output—just two novels and three short stories—achieved critical acclaim in its day, though commercial success escaped her. Over the last few decades, her work has been rediscovered, and how she is considered not only an important Black writer, but an early modernist. Included in this volume: Passing [novel] Quicksand [novel] "The Wrong Man" [short story] "Freedom"" [short story] "Sanctuary" [short story] "Three Scandinavian Games" [non-fiction] "Danish Fun" [non-fiction]

Welcome to The Fourth Mystery MEGAPACK®! This time we have a stellar lineup for your reading pleasure, drawing stories from a wide variety of sources -- including not only the traditional mystery magazines (such as Ellery Queen's and Alfred Hitchcock's), but also their less-well-known rivals (remember The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Magazine? Keyhole Detective?). Some are from science fiction magazines (mysteries can appear anywhere!) and some are from mainstream sources, by authors not normally associated with the mystery field. Edgar Rice Burroughs is most famous for Tarzan of the Apes, and Johnston McCulley is best known as the creator of Zorro, for example. And, of course, we have some series entries -- "The African Fish Mystery," by James Holding, is part of his Leroy King series (a sendup of Ellery Queen), and John Gregory Betancourt's "Pit and the Princess" is part of his Peter "Pitbull" Geller series. And, of course, we’ve featured the adventures of McCulley's antihero Thubway Tham in previous volumes of this series... Much great reading awaits you! Included here are: THE AFRICAN FISH MYSTERY, by James Holding PIT AND THE PRINCESS, by John Gregory Betancourt JUST LIKE INSPECTOR MAIGRET, by Vincent McConnor MRS.
