Chatting it up with bendy WASPs is the last thing on Coco Guthrie’s mind during her 8:30 a.m. yoga class. Having made her fortune as the world-renowned inventor of Butt-B-Gone derriere cream, Coco still doesn’t feel like she belongs among the upper class— until she attends the swankiest Halloween soiree in Greenwich, Connecticut, where three of her fellow morning yogis shared her brilliant idea to appear as Sarah Palin. Soon it’s clear that a love of stretching isn’t all this accidental sorority—which includes a single mom with echolalia, an entertainment reporter who charms the pants off handsome stars, and a drama-prone producer with a taste for drag— have in common. When the four mischievous Sarahs wander away from the party to sneak a peek at the mayor’s neighboring estate, they are stunned to find him adorned in leather and latex, and rolling up a woman’s body in a Persian rug. To make matters worse, someone has spotted the spying Palins. Someone who threatens to expose their torrid affairs in business and the bedroom. Now the unlikely foursome must use all their wits and wiles to get to the bottom of the kinky crime. But will their budding friendship be strong enough to protect their deepest secrets?

A sparkling new series introducing five unforgettable women who flock to yoga at turning points in their lives and find the gift of lasting friendship. The yoga studio is where daily cares are set aside, mats are unfurled, and physical exertion leads to well-being, renewal, and friendship. An aggressively expanding chain of Los Angeles yoga "experience centers," has Lee and her extraordinary teaching abilities in its sights. They woo her with a lucrative contract, a trademarked name for her classes, and a place for her handsome musician husband. But accepting the contract means abandoning the students at the homey studio Lee runs in L.A.'s Silver Lake district- and leaving behind four women whose friendships are suddenly more important to her than retirement benefits and a salary increase. Tales from the Yoga Studio is an insider's look at the current obsession with yoga, told with enough humor, wit, and warmth to charm and delight readers, whether or not they've ever done a Downward Dog.

Ron Adams, growing up in Tucson, going to school, off to college, tragedy, deaths, incarceration, prison gangs, mandatory release, High Sierra, marriage and family, mountains and earthquakes: What is a yogi supposed to do? Simple. Follow the Yoga Sutras and remember Patanjali's words: "These Great Vows are universal, not limited by class, place, time, or circumstance." Welcome to the Secret Yoga Club. This series of books (Secret Yoga Club 2 is the second among them) explores the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, a collection of 196 concise thoughts based on thousands of years of study. The sutras are mostly psychological, a map of consciousness, the landscape from here to samadhi. Many learned commentators see them as eloquent and methodical, and some consider Patanjali the Einstein of sages. His sutras show a fractal structure, growing upon itself from a seed to the universe. But what would a child think? Suppose the first sutra, "Now the practice of yoga," is given to Ron as a 2-year-old. And suppose this practice is carried forth through adulthood, one or more sutras at a time? How would it influence life regarding love, family, friends, struggle, and success? Doctors Melvin and Evangeline Adams brought the sutras to the education of their only child, starting at the time he learned to talk. The journey is documented here, all in first person as it occurred.

The theme of conversion constitutes a privileged point to study the framework linking an individual to the sociocultural contexts in which he or she is included. Changes in personal biographies and sociocultural change are interwoven when we speak of conversion: values, speech, norms, behaviors, beliefs, lifestyles, interests--everything is open to potential debate when an individual "converts." Conversion is especially developed here through a connection with the dynamics of pluralism, which appears to be the most peculiar cultural characteristic of our era: what does it mean to speak of "conversion" in a time in which it seems that the presumption of only one "true" truth no longer exists, while instead many different truths live together, each with its own judgment criteria.
