"An inspirational tale of personal struggle with and triumph over Tourette syndrome, this is the story of Jeff Matovic and the radical treatment he sought to cure himself. After suffering from Tourette's for years--with his tics and outbursts getting progressively worse and with no results coming from drugs or physical or spiritual therapy--Jeff was able to convince his doctors and his insurance company to try a risky deep brain stimulation treatment, a surgery that involves the implantation of a pacemaker for the brain into his skull. Penned by a journalist who is also afflicted with Tourette's, this is the incredible story of a friendship that blossomed under their common experiences with this bizarre brain disorder. A complete discussion of the latest medical research of and treatments for Tourette's, written in accessible and easy-to-understand terminology, is also included"--

It looks like a murder that couldnt have happened. Frank Caponelli (a/k/a Monsieur Francois), owner of a downtown beauty salon in fashionable Westport, Connecticut, is found dead in his apartment, with a knife wound in his back. The knife, wiped clean, is on the table beside him. Every door and window is locked from the inside and there are no fingerprints anywhere. Baffled, police Lieutenant Phelan turns to Professor Sanford, head of the psychology department at Fairfield University. The professor and David Trent, his young assistant, agree to aid in the investigation. David, who has a definite weakness for female charm, is not at all reluctant, for it develops that many beautiful women have figured in the life of Frank Caponelli. Charcoal sketches of them line the walls of his apartment, all nudes, and all drawn by Frank, who had been an amorous esthete with a taste and talent for art. The investigation reveals that his affairs had been numerous as well as overlapping and most of them with patrons of his salon. Professor Sanford feels that all of these women are suspects and David is given the not unwelcome assignment of tracing and interviewing them. The manner in which he accomplishes this, and the tangled chain of events he uncovers, provides an amusing and exciting background for the plot. There are other murders, and conflicting clues, but finally the evidence gathered by David enables the professor to arrive at the solution through clever psychological deduction. TICKED OFF!, by Gaila Ozaki Perran, is based on the book THE CUCKOO CLOCK, written by her father Milton K. Ozaki, in 1946. The murder and consequential activity surrounding this creative mystery story, has been modernized and injected into Westports downtown business area. Ms. Perran has used the names of actual people and places of business wherever permitted.

Don't you hate it when you tell some ignoramus you're from a certain city and they say, "Oh, do you know my friend Henry?" Or, lousy gift givers who say, "I kept the receipt, if you want to return it," so instead of a gift you end up with an extra errand? Well, so does stand-up comedian Paul Nardizzi. 602 Reasons to Be Ticked Off is his pointed response to the Things to Be Happy About series. Categorized by topic, the book features more than 600 quick-hit anecdotes on things that people do that grate on our collective nerves. Like smokers who blow smoke in your face because they know they're damaging their lungs, so why not bring along a few hostages? Whether it's a type of person-such as police officers, postal workers, or the elderly-or an annoying circumstance-like driving, air travel, marriage, or job interviews-Nardizzi has had it up to here (place hand palm-down six inches over head). The book offers a hilarious mix of proven-funny lines from his stand-up act as well as original material on the above subjects-and then some. This laugh-out-loud-funny gift book of PG-13 humor is sure to be enjoyed by anyone from kids in their early teens on up to old people dying in nursing homes.

Former Hollywood sitcom writer and funny girl Andrea R. Frazer thought she had it all: a hunky husband, two gorgeous kids, a house in the 'burbs . . . but when her son was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, a disorder that causes uncontrollable tics and twitches, her fantasy life imploded. Terrified, she feared he would bark, scream and curse in circle time. Turns out the only person who barked, screamed and cursed was Andrea, as she went head-to-head with this confusing condition. From diet to meds, shrinks to therapists, Frazer has written a no-holds-barred mom-moir about the realities of raising a kid on the spectrum. It isn't always pretty, but it's real, and if you're as scared as she was, clarity can look pretty darn gorgeous. Written with humor, transparency and most importantly, hope, it's Andrea's desire that this book will hold the hand of every special needs parent. "May it whisper in your ear, 'You did not cause this condition. Stop blaming yourself. You are not alone.' And while you're at it, eat a taco. Life is better with a little food. (Trust me on this one.)" ~ Andrea
