Timing The Events With Nakshatra Dasha

Vedic Astrology gives deep insights into most of the aspects and parameters of human lives. One of those is 'Timing the Events'. This book is intended to provide an overall view of horoscope or chart analysis with a focus on the timing of the events in one's life. This book is a modest attempt to present merely a portion of the ancient Vedic astrological knowledge with respect to timelines of various aspects and conditions of humans, which is based on the Nakshatra Dasha or Vimshottari Dasha system. It is absolutely essential that learned readers and astrologers to exercise full restraint when interpreting certain rules while analysing a chart and as a thumb rule always, all the aspects of a chart must be taken in to account in a holistic manner.

This book deals with the determination of method of timing of events through dasha and transit. The horoscope and related divisional charts can simply give an indication about the auspicious and inauspicious probabilities on the basis of the study of house, house lord and significator whereas the timing of an event cannot be calculated without understanding the impact of major period & transit in operation so for getting timing of events in one's life, we use Dasha and transits. Dasha tells which planet is affecting the native at a particular time, whereas transit tells us which natal planet is vibrating because of the transiting planet. A combined result of Dasha and transit gives us the behavior of the native at a particular time. In nutshell the Horoscope and concerned divisional charts only indicate the promise in the horoscope, negative or positive, according to the position of house, house lord, significator, concerned house from the significator. But the time of fructification of event is indicated by the Dasha/Anterdasha of different planets. If a good dasha is in operation, the native will get good results according to the significations of the concerned dasha nath and its lordship in the horoscope. For determining the timing of events for various events such as education, profession, marriage, children, acquiring of vehicle, land and property, foreign travels, each subject is discussed in detail in different chapters. The principles to identify the timing of events are given with illustrations / examples.

THE TIMING OF EVENTS fulfils an important need of Vedic Astrology. Predictive astrology aims at identifying the specific period for the occurence of a specific event. Several principles on this subjec have been indicated in classical texts. Many of them are not available to a large number of modern students. Astrological analysis has two components. The first is the deduction of likely trends in the life of a native. This determines the basic promise of a horoscope. The second, and more important, is to determine the time when the relevant events, according to the promise, would happen. The first part requires astrological knowledge & calculations etc; while for the second part great perception, synthesis, intuition and divine help are required. Astrology is basically the art & science of deciphering the characteristics & impulses gathered by various planets by their position/ movement and their synthesis. It is the basic characteristics of planets as modified by various impulses/ vibrations which they receive and then imparts on the native. Essentially one has to understand planets- their relationship with houses, signs & Nakshatra and their roles as lords of sign/ houses, Nakshatra or its subdivisions, as dasha lords or their day to day transit with respect to their natal position or standard specific points like natal Moon, natal ascendant or dasha lords. This not only helps in understanding the basic promises, but the timing of their fructification as well.

There are three important things for an event to take place in a native’s life - promise, transit and Dasa. For instance, if your 7th house and the lord are positive and natal Jupiter and Venus are also placed well, your chart has a strong “promise” of marriage but for it to take place, “transit” Jupiter and Saturn should be influencing marriage related houses or lord (2nd, 7th, 11th). Another major aspect for event occurrence is “Dasa”. In Vedic Astrology, different planets influence us at different points of time in our life. The perceived life span of an individual is counted as 120 years in total. Each planet is assigned certain number of years in one’s life. Our life is divided into Mahadasa of 9 planets and each Mahadasa is then further divided into 9 Antardasas each. The Mahadasas follow in the following sequence - Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury. Mahadasa begins from the lord of the Nakshatra where is Moon positioned at the time of birth. The exact duration of the first Mahadasa depends upon the degree of the Nakshatra when you were born. Ketu Mahadasa runs for 7 years, Venus has 20 years, Sun has 6 years, moon has 10 years, Mars has 7 years, Rahu has 18 years, Jupiter has 16 years, Saturn has 19 years, and Mercury has 17 years. Mahadasa is like a calendar of your life’s events. Whether the Mahadasa is auspicious or inauspicious for you depends upon several factors like position of that planet in your birth chart, whether it’s malefic or benefic. This duration of planets gives direction to the events in your life. Mahadasa of each planet runs for several years but this doesn’t mean that you get the results associated with a single planet only. The actual results depend upon Antadasa. Mahadasa of each planet is further divided into 9 planets Antardasas following the same sequence of planets. The events of your life are based on both - the Mahadasa and the Antardasa planets. For example, if you have Rahu Antardasa under Rahu Mahadasa, events would follow as per Rahu’s characteristics and strength in your horoscope. However, if you have Jupiter under Rahu, then the results would be based on the position of both Jupiter as well as Rahu. If the planets are positioned on 2 – 12, 6 – 8 or 5 – 9 axis, repercussions might not be that positive for the native. The lordship of planets is also considered in the process. If both planets are lords of Kendra or Trikone houses, the results would be like that of a Raj Yoga. If one has Kendra or Trikone lordship, and the second planet is lord of 6th, 8th or 12th house, then the results might not be favorable.
