In Transcendent Love: Dostoevsky and the Search for a Global Ethic, Leonard G. Friesen ranges widely across Dostoevsky's stories, novels, journalism, notebooks, and correspondence to demonstrate how Dostoevsky engaged with ethical issues in his times and how those same issues continue to be relevant to today's ethical debates. Friesen contends that the Russian ethical voice, in particular Dostoevsky's voice, deserves careful consideration in an increasingly global discussion of moral philosophy and the ethical life. Friesen challenges the view that contemporary liberalism provides a religiously neutral foundation for a global ethic. He argues instead that Dostoevsky has much to offer when it comes to the search for a global ethic, an ethic that for Dostoevsky was necessarily grounded in a Christian concept of an active, extravagant, and transcendent love. Friesen also investigates Dostoevsky's response to those who claimed that contemporary European trends, most evident in the rising secularization of nineteenth-century society, provided a more viable foundation for a global ethic than one grounded in the One, whom Doestoevsky called simply "the Russian Christ." Throughout, Friesen captures a sense of the depth and sheer loveliness of Dostoevsky's canon.

A deep metaphysical power lies behind love. We are responsible for our current life experience as there are no curses or coincidences whatsoever. Our life is entirely a product of our loving or blocking perceptions. We chose our lives. We chose to manifest in this time. We selected our bodies, our races, and our families for a reason-to further our metaphysical journeys and learn to express love. Transcendent Love reveals the manifesting force of our hearts to tackle common life challenges such as addiction, body image issues, and broken relationships. Former beauty queen, retired actress, and holistic nutritionist Priscila Perales guides us on this remarkable journey as she shares the very same metaphysical laws that helped her overcome her own adversity and obstacles. Perales explores all aspects of love, from the importance of forgiveness and practicing compassion to our deep needs to express generosity, gratitude, and hold a spiritual practice. Embracing your current circumstance is the only way to transcend and transform it. Through love, you can redirect your life path to bring about a more fulfilling life experience. Living with an open heart is the only worthy way to be so that we can express our full potential.

Why this book is so important to me and why I would love for everyone to read it: When we find the Naked Jesus, we uncover the freedom to put our faith into action; we desire to do something and not just believe something; we stop talking a good game and get dirty playing the game; we are freed from the institutional church structure that desires to define us and stand invited to the table where the Naked Jesus help us discover who we are; we are freed from the garbage it brings to the party; and we no longer swim in the slime of the shallow end of the pool.

In his latest book, Walter Doyle Staples invites his readers to experience life as fully aware, fully conscious, and fully functioning individuals. Dr. Staples presents powerful and life-changing ideas and concepts on how to transcend our ego-based state of consciousness to achieve deep peace, profound love, and infinite joy. Happy 95% of the Time explains how our attachment to our ego can only create dysfunction and suffering in our lives, resulting in fear, anger, guilt, regret, depression, and/or despair. He contends we need to awaken to a new consciousness and experience a new beginning. Happy 95% of the Time describes in detail the three primary ways to overcome low self-esteem, stress, anxiety, and depression: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—an example of Western, left-brain analytical thinking. Practical spirituality—an example of Eastern, right-brain mystical thinking. Mindfulness meditation—an inner-body, contemplative approach designed to manage our internal thought processes in order to calm the mind. Numerous world-renowned authorities on personal success—from Jack Canfield, Ken Blanchard, and Dr. Norman Vincent Peale to Art Linkletter, Anthony Robbins, and Brian Tracy—have praised Walter’s previous books. We are sure they—and you—will find Happy 95% of the Time just as valuable and compelling.

This volume addresses issues of moral pluralism and polarization by drawing attention to the transcendent character of the good. It probes the history of Christian theology and moral philosophy to investigate the value of this idea and then relates it to contemporary moral issues. The good is transcendent in that it goes beyond concrete goods, things, acts, or individual preferences. It functions as the pole of a compass that helps orient our moral life. This volume explores the critical tension between the transcendent good and its concrete embodiments in the world through concepts like conscience, natural and divine law, virtue, and grace. The chapters are divided into three parts. Part I discusses metaphysical issues like the realist nature and the unity of the good in relation to philosophical, naturalist, and theological approaches from Augustine to Iris Murdoch. The chapters in Part II explore issues about knowing the transcendent good and doing good, exemplified in the delicate balance between divine command and human virtuousness. Early Protestant theological views prove to be excellent interlocutors for this reflection. Finally, Part III focuses on how transcendence is at stake in two heavily debated moral issues of today: euthanasia and the family. The Transcendent Character of the Good will be of interest to scholars and advanced students working in theological ethics, moral philosophy, and the history of ethics.
