Excerpt from Translations From the Original Chinese: With Notes On the Eighteenth of October, 1813, as His Imperial Majesty was about to enter Pekin, on his return from a Summer's excursion to Jĕ-ho, a party of Conspirators entered the Imperial Palace, and kept possession of a part of it for three days. The first intimation of so extraordinary an occurrence made to the distant parts of the Empire, was the following Document, purporting to be drawn up, and issued by the hand of the Emperor himself, trembling with apprehension for the safety of his Person and the liability of his Throne.
