Bruce Longenecker explores Paul's theology of divine triumph in Galatians. Paul envisaged God's transforming power against a background of Christian social interaction. He calls his Galatian hearers to a life of transformed existence through the power of the Spirit. Christian moral identity arises out of the faithfulness of Christ - a feature crucial to the theological and corporate enterprise that Paul envisages. Longenecker conveys the importance of ethics and Christian moral identity in Paul's vision. He explores the 'apocalyptic' dimension of Paul's theology, and explains it in relation to 'Lutheran' and 'new' perspectives on Paul. And he demonstrates how Paul in Galatians may provide an important resource for contemporary theology concerning Christian identity and modern society.

A vibrant and growing field of discussion in contemporary New Testament studies is the question of 'apocalyptic' thought in Paul. What is often lacking in this discussion, however, is a close comparison of Paul's would-be apocalyptic theology with the Jewish and Christian apocalyptic literature of his time, and the worldview that literature expresses. This book addresses that challenge. Covering four key theological themes (epistemology, eschatology, cosmology and soteriology), J. P. Davies places Paul 'among the apocalypses' in order to evaluate recent attempts at outlining an 'apocalyptic' approach to his letters. While affirming much of what those approaches have argued, and agreeing that 'apocalyptic' is a crucial category for an understanding of the apostle, Davies also raises some important questions about the dichotomies which lie at the heart of the 'apocalyptic Paul' movement.

Douglas Campbell gives a clear account of why much current description of Paul's theology, and of his gospel and of his theory of salvation, is so confused. After outlining the difficulties underlying much of the current debate he lays out some basic options that will greatly clarify the debate. He then engages with these options and shows how one offers far more promise than the others, sketching out some of its initial applications. Campbell then shows in more detail how another option -- the main alternative, and the main culprit in terms of many of our difficulties -- can be circumvented textually, in a responsible fashion. That is, we see how we could remove this option from Paul's text exegetically, and so reach greater clarity. Finally, he concludes with a 'road-map' of where future, more detailed, research into Paul needs to go if the foregoing strategy is to be carried out thoroughly. Campbell believes that by utilising this strategy Paul's gospel will be shown to be both cogent and constructive. What does God require? A humble heart, a willing spirit, and a life that He can control. God called Abraham to be His chosen vessel. And from him came Isaac and Jacob, and Jacob became Israel, from whom the Messiah was born. Through the obedience of one man, God accomplished what He wanted. He loved His creation too much to let them be, so he came down and rescued his chosen ones from their own self destruction. God Almighty called Abraham when he was a pagan, deeply involved with the cult of his father’s era. He desperately wanted to get out, but that was his culture and attempting to escape would have left Abraham with nothing. His father owned everything and was in control of Abraham’s life.
