The main goal of this book is to emphasize the impact of ubiquity on scientific entrepreneurship and to promote practical ways to make scientific entrepreneurship ubiquitous within universities in order to create more startups, for economic and societal benefit. The book begins with a look at the state of research on ubiquity in humanities and information technology. First, the ubiquity of God in theology is analyzed, with a focus on the three major religions – Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism. Also, ubiquity in the field of law is investigated to examine whether and how ubiquity is described in jurisprudence and in how far it adds to the concept of ubiquity. Second, the field of IT is focused, where ubiquity occurs in the area of ubiquitous computing. The analysis of the state of research in humanities and information technology than allows the identification of certain characteristics of ubiquity. These characteristics are used as determinants to develop a model, consisting of a general ubiquitous entrepreneurship framework and a ubiquitous entrepreneurship board. This model was developed to ensure that each university can use the identified characteristics for ubiquity from theology and IT to individually define itself as an entrepreneurial university, and derive methods and instruments to promote ubiquitous entrepreneurship holistically.

Following in the footsteps of the web, Web 2.0, and the iPod, Ubiquitous Computing ("UbiComp") is the next game-changing technology. Leading expert Bo Begole, the director of PARC’s UbiComp Center, shows executives, technology managers, and entrepreneurs how to successfully incorporate UbiComp into their own products, services, and strategies. Begole introduces the technologies of UbiComp, shows how they fit together, and identifies the challenges and opportunities they present. Next, he answers the key questions decision-makers and strategists ask most often about UbiComp, including: What is it, why does it matter, and how will it impact my business? What industries will be most affected first? Which parts of my organization will UbiComp change most? What UbiComp solutions should we consider for our internal business processes? How should I position my company for these transformations? What barriers must we overcome and which barriers can we erect for our competitors? What should I build, partner, or buy? What barriers does my company need to overcome to adopt a UbiComp-based business?

Entrepreneurs and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) have become the darlings of neoliberal development thinking, with the received wisdom being that such enterprises hold the key to the economic transformation of low-income countries. This thinking has profoundly influenced development policy in Rwanda, but has singularly failed to deliver the much anticipated emergence of a new class of entrepreneurs and a vibrant SME sector. This book deconstructs the myths around entrepreneurship and SMEs, and reveals how neoliberal approaches towards microcredit and related programmes have failed to address the economic challenges facing countries like Rwanda. Drawing on his study of successful and aspiring entrepreneurs, Poole identifies the factors associated with successful entrepreneurship. He uncovers the unintended consequences of the entrepreneurship and SME development prescription, and offers key policy insights which have implications for Rwanda and beyond.
