"Lorrie Popow has been an egg artist for almost 60 years. Through the years, she has won many awards for her egg artwork. She has represented the state of Arkansas at The White House Visitor's Center with her egg art. When a young girl learns that her grandmother's hands have grown too shaky to make pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs), she learns the art herself, hoping to heal her grandmother's heart. The book explains the method for making pysanky, as well as a bit about the history, symbolism and tradition behind the craft. At the end of the book there are two pages explaining the meanings of pysanky symbols in the borders of illustrations. There is also a page at the end with a pronunciation guide and several links to sites related to pysanky.

The history of Ukrainian art illustrates various phenomena that fundamentally altered the established flow of events and defined the further development of Ukraine's culture. Art historians frequently refer to them in an attempt to create their own versions of the past. Where Ukraine's visual arts of the twentieth century are concerned, it is impossible not to mention the founding of the Ukrainian Academy of Art in 1917.

The Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute commemorated the 70th anniversary of the man-made famine inflicted on Ukraine with a 2003 symposium titled "The Ukrainian Terror-Famine of 1932-1933: Revisiting the Issues and the Scholarship Twenty Years after the HURI Famine Project." This volume contains some of the papers presented there.
