This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Smart Cities and Green ICT Systems, SMARTGREENS 2017, and the Third International Conference on Vehicle Technology and Intelligent Transport Systems, VEHITS 2017, held in Porto, Portugal in April 2017. The 8 full papers of SMARTGREENS 2017 presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 70 submissions. VEHITS 2017 received 77 paper submissions from which 9 papers were selected and published in this book. The papers reflect topics such as smart cities, energy-aware systems and technologies, sustainable computing and communications, sustainable transportation and smart mobility.

This book takes a forward-looking approach by bringing in research and contributions that facilitate in mapping the impact of AI and big data on businesses, the nature of work along with providing practical solutions for preparing the work, workplace, and the workforce of the future. Organizations globally have been experiencing immense transformation due to the reinvention and redefining of the business models due to the dynamic nature of the business environment. Looking at an organizational context, undeniably, the definition of ‘work’ and ‘organizations’ is genuinely changing. When thousands of women gathered in 1983 to protest the stockpiling of nuclear weapons at a rural upstate New York military depot, the area was shaken by their actions. Taking into account recent developments in the psychology of curiosity, as well as research on the nature and motivation of scientific inquiry, Miščević identifies curiosity as a positive and vital character trait.
