A complete survey of a broad field of science dating back to the dawn of history is rarely attempted in the day, but the present work is an example of such a study. This work presents the more important of the venomous and poisonous marine invertebrates of the Indian Ocean. It covers the systematics and taxonomy of these animals, their importance to Mankind, the nature of their venoms or poisons, and the clinical significance of the injuries they can provoke. The seven chapters of the text include a general Introduction, followed by detailed studies of Protista, Porifera, Cnidaria, Minor Phyla, Echinodermata and Mollusca. Although primarily written with the zoologist and toxinologist in mind, the book provides a ready reference for students, graduate and undergraduate alike, marine chemists and pharmacologists, public health workers, and physicians.
