Synopsis: Vile Affections is the true story of Benedetta Carlini, a seventeenth century abbess, who is brought up on charges of false mysticism. It is only when Benedetta begins to upset the church that government officials are forced to investigate. The investigators seek the truth, but the truth they uncover shakes their world beyond anything they could have imagined. This is the story of the first written record of a lesbian relationship.
