The sketches do not even pretend to exhaust the topics of which they treat, much less to include all the subjects which might be reasonably looked for in a book wanderers and anglers. Some day, if the success of the present volume should warrant the undertaking, a second series of "Waterside Sketches" may make amends for present omissions. Most of the chapters in this book originally appeared in Gentleman's Magazine, but they are reprinted with numerous additions.
