We Can Make It

This volume contains stories of 25 disabled women in Asia, Africa and Latin America. They tell how they defied the odds to become educators, lawyers, farmers and shopkeepers. Their success is measured not only in monetary terms, but in the number of obstacles they have overcome.; The women speak candidly about discrimination, motivating influences, the quest for education and employment, and the desire to be wives and mothers. They also offer pragmatic advice for policy-makers, so that more disabled women can achieve their potential and contribute to society.

Growing up in the rural south was “Hard but Fair” for these two families. The Tezeno and Breaux families are living a life that has long since passed. The African Union and some organisations such as NEPAD have developed policies for the development of Africa to date. But these policies are not really effective when we consider the current African economic situation compared to the northern countries. A large number of African refugees are pouring into the north. One of the fundamental problems causing the non-implementation of these policies is the lack of a clear agenda that can trigger the development process and solve all other problems at once.
