Wir Und Die Anderen

Bildmedien wie Filme, Skulpturen, Fotografien, Comics oder die verschiedenen, im Internet zirkulierenden visuellen Inszenierungen stellen Orte dar, wo nahe an den Sinnen emotional aufgeladene und oft ambivalente Bilder in Bezug auf Identität und Andersheit verbreitet werden. Dabei werden sowohl Selbst- als auch Fremdbilder figuriert, zelebriert oder auch problematisiert. Zugleich fungiert Fremdheit vor allem in jüngerer Zeit vermehrt als Spiegel des Eigenen – wovon zum Beispiel Bilder des exotischen oder pittoresken Nomaden Zeugnis geben. Der Band setzt sich in pluraler Weise mit Sichtbarkeiten in Zusammenhang mit Identitätskonstitutionen auseinander und vereint demensprechend Beiträge aus verschiedensten kulturwissenschaftlichen Diskursschulen. Er zeichnet nach, wie Vorstellungen und Gewissheiten in Bezug auf Selbst und Andersheit und darauf, was als das Eigene und das Fremde gilt, auch über Artefakte der Visuellen Kultur entstehen und in Zirkulation gehalten werden. Die Beiträge thematisieren aber auch, wo und in welcher Weise Bildmedien an diesbezüglichen Auseinandersetzungen und Verschiebungen beteiligt sind. Denn Bilder können zu Ereignissen werden, die Konflikte anstoßen und Übergänge ("Konversionen") zwischen Weltsichten provozieren. Sie können unsere Vorstellungskraft aber auch anregen und das Gestalten weiterer Bilder in Gang setzen. Ein Fokus des Bandes liegt darauf, wie Bildmedien an aktuellen politischen und kulturalisierten Auseinandersetzungen beteiligt sind.

The sources of public morality are an increasingly pressing issue within philosophical and theological ethics. This book presents essays, covering a broad spectrum of the various aspects of this problematic question, by some of the leading scholars in the field. The essays address various approaches and traditions. Most were first presented as lectures at a Societas Ethica conference in Berlin during August 2001; others are presented here for the first time. Sven Andersen teaches systematic theology at Aarhus University, Denmark, Centre for Bioethics. Ulrich Nissen teaches systematic theology at Aarhus University. Lars Reuter teaches systematic theology at Aarhus University.

German studies scholars from various disciplines often use and reference ethnography, yet do not often present ethnography as a core methodology and research approach. Former Neighbors, Future Allies? emphasizes how German studies engages in methods and theories of ethnography. Through a variety of topics and from multiple perspectives including literature, folklore, history, sociology, and anthropology, this volume draws attention to how ethnography bridges transdisciplinary and international research in German studies.

In Russia's cultural memory, the Caucasus is a potent point of reference, to which many emotions, images, and stereotypes are attached. The book gives a new reading of the development of Russia's perception of its borderlands and presents a complex picture of the encounter between the Russians and the indigenous population of the Caucasus. The aim of the present conference volume is to study the interrelationship of literary and material approaches to historical investigation of gender. Paradigmatically the significance and meaning of gender and sexuality is explored in the context of private and public, religious and secular spaces. Historical, cultural, and social norms (and deviations) of daily life are examined through the lens of textual, archaeological, and art historical investigations to interpret relics of ancient Israelite, Jewish, and Christian communities from the Iron Age through Late Antiquity. Scholars from varied disciplines such as biblical and classical archaeology, epigraphy, Old and New Testament exegesis and religious studies assembled to engage in a dialogue involving both texts and material culture.

Patristic and rabbinic biblical interpretations are significant contributions to the identity construction of late antique Christian and Jewish groups. The contributions in this conference volume illuminate the reception of biblical texts, themes and figures in patristic and rabbinic writings from the 2nd to the 8th century. They reveal processes of mutual demarcation, which are sometimes extremely polemical, sometimes only implicit and indirectly accessible. The correct interpretation of Scripture is claimed for one's own "we", while at the same time distinguishing it from the "others". Nevertheless, similarities and mutual positive references are clearly recognizable. Especially the often so polemical Christian interpretation is from the beginning rooted in the Jewish tradition and based on it. But also the rabbinic interpretation shows traces of the controversy with Christianity.
