The Puranas work as guiding inspiration in Hindu life. The stories of Puranas reflect the composite human nature of all times. The lessons of the Puranas are captivating, entertaining and widely followed by the Hindus, so much that it can undisputedly be said that the Puranas are the beacons of Indian ethos. Today, when the old values seem outdated, the stories of the Puranas bring forth the lessons as much the graceful as were in old times. There are 18 Puranas, which tell the tales of vice and virtue, good and evil, religion and irreligion and so on. These are relevant even today. Koorma Purana is one of them. Its text is presented in form of a tortoise's expression of stories and morals out of them. The word 'Tortoise' means 'Koorma' in Sanskrit. According to Hindu scriptures, the Koorma was the metamorphosed form of Lord Vishnu, in his second incarnation. The morals derived from the stories spoken by the Koorma, were actually emanating from metamorphosed Lord Vishnu. The Koorma discusses the Shaiva and Shaakta theories.

YAJURVEDA The YAJURVEDA in Sanskrit means 'wisdom of sacrificial formulas'. The YAJURVEDA is the book of rituals which was compiled in ancient times to perform the Yagya and other rituals in right order. The YAJURVEDA is popular as the second Veda. It is claimed that the hymns of YAJURVEDA have been created from the hymns of the Rigveda as 663 hymns are copied from it. The YAJURVEDA not only depicts the situation prevailing during yagya period along with spread of knowledge, god, and social importance. This translation is based on the grammar of famous Vedic interpreter Acharya Uvat. The entire text, the names of the gods and rituals whose equivalent could not be found in English have been given as proper nouns. This Veda is a precise and accurate in the translation from its Hindi version translated by renowned Sanskrit grammar expert.

The ‘Srimad Bhagwal’ itself is believed to be the gem among all the sacred Puranas as it emphasises on the devotion to Lord. Vishnu’s incarnation, Lord Krishna. It is believed to have been authored by the great sage Vedavyasa when he felt a great unrest troubling his soul after authoring the Mahabharat. Although this Purana itself is believed to be a part of Skanda Purana, it is its lyrical beauty and devotion to Krishna that made it most popular. It enlists 22 incarnations of Lord Vishnu, while other sacred accounts of the Sanatana Dharma believe that there were nine incarnations and one is yet to come. Normally in the Purana, the tales or stories frequently overlap with each other giving emphasis on a different point. Owing to paucity of space, many of the stories have been given a brief mention in this work with the footnote guiding to the sources, to get the full story in the other Puranas. There are also certain variations in the details of the stories which have been also marked within parenthesis. Also, many details mentioned in this Puran which may appear uninteresting, have been deliberately left out. Some of the stories which are well- known have been skipped. For example, the Ramakatha or the details about other incarnations popularised by other sacred sources. The main emphasis in culling out the stories has been on those stories that reveal the basic moral fiber of our ethos. These stories have been recreated keeping in mind the comprehension of our young learners and hence making these stories more logical. This work is only an attempt to make our society recapture its roots. That is why the language and style have been used with great care so as to make the stories readable and comprehensive. It is hoped that our discerning readership will accord it a warm welcome. 'Veda’ literally means 'knowledge' in Sanskrit. It is because the term was derived when the ancients thought of putting their experiences in an organised manner. It can't be said in the written form because it is certain that in that hoary past period writing had not been invented. Nevertheless, the four Vedasy viz. Rigveda, Saamveda, Yajurveda and Atharvaveda, are known to contain the pristine gems of Indian wisdom. They appear universally important because they constitute one of the first records of the human 'awakened' experiences. They can be said to be the very fount of Indian wisdom. It is their status, apart from the contents, that made them universally popular. It is to highlight their extreme significance that we are undertaking this project of revealing before the curious readers their Sookta or aphorism- wise translation.
