The Inamdar clan has demonstrated extraordinary strength, resilience, philanthropy, and courage. In this family history, Dr. Janak A. Inamdar examines the roots of his clan, paying particular attention to Ramsinh Rajsinh Inamdar. He painstakingly traces his family tree, starting with Ramsinh, and explores the heroism he demonstrated to earn the title Inamdar. Ramsinh played a central role in helping the Marathas take back India from Islamic conquerors. He also helped establish Baroda—one of the richest states of India. The author also explores the lives of several ancestors of who he considers the family’s founding father. Moreover, he paints a detailed picture of the political and economic situation of Gujarat in the 1690s and beyond, including the chaos in the aftermath of flooding and epidemics. Translated into English by Sudha Mehta, this book offers a revealing glimpse of an important family in India and how its founder set the stage for his descendants to succeed.

This is a study of the development of the art of war in India. Ample proof is provided to show how, from early times armies, led by military geniuses, masters of battle strategy and tactics, equipped with modern artillery and weapons of war were unfailingly victorious over far more numerous opponents who employed antiquated battle systems and outmoded weapons. This book should be of inestimable value to all students of military history as well as the general reader.

There have been many advances in the field of gastrointestinal pa thology which are of considerable clinical significance during the 13 years since the last publication of a volume of Current Topics in Pathology devoted to this subject. Many have arisen from the app lication of new techniques of histochemistry, immunocytochemi stry, quantitative morphometry and molecular and cell biology to gastrointestinal diseases, but some, notably the recognition of the association of Campylobaeter pylori with the commonest type of chronic gastritis, have been achieved using such long established 'routine' histological procedures that one wonders how their signifi cance had escaped recognition for so long. The topics covered in this volume have been selected because they present advances of relevance to the diagnostic clinical pathologist. However, they re present the personal selection of the editor, and are in no way exhaustive. Many other examples of progress in our understanding of the pathophysiology of gastrointestinal diseases have been omit ted, either because of the confines of space or because they have been well reviewed recently in other publications. Most of the workload of the practising gastrointestinal patholo gist involves the diagnosis and assessment either of inflammation or of neoplasia in the alimentary tract, and this is reflected in the topics presented in this book.
