A Coveted Servitude

A sinister supernatural personality musters the forces of darkness to entice willing people into financial bondage, and once enslaved they are irrevocably imprisoned. A news reporter, acting on a tip that all is not well within the confines of a heavily encumbered mega-church ministry, pursues the lead not knowing that he will become a target. He hires a private investigator, and they learn that the mega-church pastor is overseeing a ministerial mafia with himself as the Don. What begins as the pursuit of a story soon becomes a spiritual journey for the reporter as he encounters human intrigue and the powers of darkness. Ken Reamy is a minister, evangelist, and former news reporter. He is a contributing columnist for the Trinidad Times Independent, and the Raton Range. He and his wife Carol, live in Trinidad, Colorado. They have four children and three grandchildren. His two previous books are In the Crosshairs of Deception, and The Balaam Surrogate.

Slavery, the State, and Islam looks at slavery as the foundation of power and the state in the Muslim world. Closely examining major theological and literary Islamic texts, it challenges traditional approaches to the subject. Servitude was a foundation for the construction of the new state on the Arabian peninsula. It constituted the essence of a relationship of authority as found in the Koran. The dominant stereotypes and traditions of equality as promoted by Islam, of its leniency toward slaves, is questioned. This original, pioneering book overturns the mythical view of caliphal power in Islam. It examines authority as it functions in the Arab world today and helps to explain the difficulty of attempting to instill freedom and democracy there.

Dancing on the White Page examines the popular autobiographies of six well-known Black women entertainers—Diahann Carroll, Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, Eartha Kitt, Whoopi Goldberg, and Mary Wilson—and makes a case for adding Black celebrity autobiography to the African American literary canon. As she explores these women's fascinating stories, Kwakiutl L. Dreher reveals how each one improvises the choreography of her life to survive and thrive in the film, television, and music industries, as well as the politically charged environment of the Black community, most specifically represented by the NAACP. Reading each autobiography as a site of self-revelation, Dreher discovers stories of Black self-determination along with the fight for liberation from oppression and racial and gender discrimination. She explores each woman's full meaning in American culture at large and in American entertainment culture in particular.

Research scholars have lamented the fact that most of the extant studies on religious responses to the COVID-19 pandemic focus on a particular religious group, typically Christian. This book fills this lacuna by providing some useful insights into how one Muslim religious institution responded to the pandemic. It portrays the sermons, advice, and guidance provided to the Claremont Main Road Mosque (CMRM) congregation in Cape Town, South Africa, by its Imams and elected board of governors during the course of the pandemic. The book carries a concluding chapter by Professor R. Scott Appleby, an expert in the study of lived religion, who critically reflects on this collection of sermons and the response of the mosque by providing some independent ruminations on the themes of religion, science, and the human person.

The issue highlighted in this paper is the protection of children from illegal adoption or adoptions that are done for an illegal purpose like human trafficking. Human trafficking is a major concern not only intra-country but also inter-country. The aim of this paper is to identify the problem and suggest ways to a better solution. The first topic is a brief history in which the genesis of adoption is explained, and it is discussed whether adoption is really for the welfare of the child. Furthermore, the relationship between inter-country adoption and India is explained. It is analysed, what laws provide such kind of adoptions, what is lacking in those laws, what their impact is and if the adoption is really happening in the country. Additionally, the international laws of adoption and whether they help in protecting the interest of the child are discussed. Then, the problem of child trafficking based on illegal adoption, how far the laws dealt with it, what has to be done and how to protect children from such abuses is explained. There must be a strong, stable and legitimate inter-country adoption infrastructure. Adoption can only maintain a principled and enforceable line against child selling and child trafficking when effective systems of enforceable regulation are in place that effectively prevent adoption systems from becoming markets for children. The refusal or failure of the domestic and inter-country adoption systems to put those needed regulations into place speaks volumes regarding the ethics of the domestic and inter-country adoption. Inter-country adoption is a conditional good; inter-country adoption as child trafficking is an evil.
