Cowgirl’s Creed Courage doesn’t develop when things are going well. Instead, it creeps up your backbone fed by the springs of fear. So begins A Cowgirl’s Life in the Mountains, where colorful, authentic characters—including the author herself—reveal their stories as they navigate rugged terrain and negotiate the temperaments of fellow travelers. In her debut book, Lauralee Northcott braids together stories, songs, poems, menus and recipes from her 30-plus years as a horseback guide and cook in Washington’s Pasayten and Lake Chelan-Sawtooth wilderness areas. Lauralee captures human (and animal) behavior humorously and thoughtfully, recounting evenings where her cook tent and the campfire became the space for sharing hearty dinners, reflecting on the day, getting better acquainted, and enjoying cowboy music. Focused and engaging, her experiences as an entertainer and a mountain horseman shine through. Perfect for anyone who loves the mountains, horses and the wilderness, A Cowgirl’s Life in the Mountains will teach readers practical wilderness tips, as well as the art of Dutch oven cooking and how to set up their own backyard “campfire”—a space to share a meal and a story, and the magic of the outdoors. So saddle up and grab a big slice of hard-won, horseman knowledge, served up in some kickass prose and sweet poetry!

USA Today bestselling author: Smoke Jensen aims to bring justice to a town taken over by the lawless—with a little help from his .45 . . . A short ride to hell Outlaw Joe Wales has a score to settle in Pueblo: find Jacob Murdock and the band of vaqueros who attacked his wife and drown them in their own stinking blood. But when Wales's hunting party is ambushed, the only gunfighter he can count on for cover is Smoke Jensen, the trigger-ready legend of the High Lonesome. Jensen's more than willing to strap on a brace of .45s to help out his friend—especially if it involves nailing some dirty renegades to the wall. Things are tougher than Jensen imagined. Murdock and his men aren't just hiding out in Pueblo—they've taken it over. Outnumbered in a town of desperados, Smoke is numero uno on Murdock's most-wanted list. But even with a price on his head, Smoke can still dole out his own unforgiving brand of justice. And when the sun goes down, he's going to take them on one by one, and blow each and every hide back to hell.

I will begin by telling you a little about the person who I am and how I came to write these pages..... Today, I own and operate a real working cattle ranch along with a Country Western Bar and Grill, Western Wear, Feed and Saddle at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. I grew up in a small farming community in rolling hills of rural Ohio. I enlisted in the Military at age 17 and was selected by the US CID to do covert operations in the North Carolina region of USACIDC. I worked as a CID Agent for 7 years and then left the CID but continued to work with special operations for an additional two years. After 10 years of working as a covert undercover officer. I decided to change direction and become and retired a North Carolina State Trooper. The following poems and short stories were inspired by true events or friends who have touched my life in some matter and have forever changed my life. It is said that friendship is clairvoyant. With a true friend words are never needed. What you enjoy doing together will come natural and such a friendship shall stand throughout the ages. I hope you find such a friendship in your life and then you savor each day and share it with that someone special in your life as you go. Whether we realize it or not, everyone we know is very special to us. When we look back on our younger years, we will remember The people who went to school with us, the people who made us laugh, the people who hung out with us when nobody else would, and the people who made our lives much better simply by being a part of it. That's the wonderful thing about friendship--you always feel loved and cared about. The most important thing to remember is to always appreciate the friends that you have.... Seek out and find the time in each day to see the Beauty and Love in the world around you....
