Decapod crustaceans are a particularly important animal group in a variety of aquatic environments, such as freshwater, estuaries, and oceans. Research on this group has increased during recent decades, and relates to their economic and ecological importance. The papers included reflect current trends in decapod crustacean research, and present results on a diversity of specific research fields, grouped into the major themes: a) Systematics, Phylogeny, and Biogeography, b) Growth, Morphology, and Development, c) Ecology and Behaviour, d) Reproduction, and e) Fisheries and Culture. The Colloquia Crustacea Decapoda Mediterranea are devoted to decapod crustacean research, and organised on a 3-year basis by institutions of the Mediterranean geographical area. The scope of these meetings has progressively widened throughout the sequence of events, and presently welcomes contributions from crustacean research world-wide.

This book introduces updated information on conservation issues, providing an overview of what is needed to advance the global conservation of freshwater decapods such as freshwater crabs, crayfish, and shrimps. Biodiversity loss in general is highest in organisms that depend on intact freshwater habitats, because freshwater ecosystems worldwide are suffering intense threats from multiple sources. Our understanding of the number and location of threatened species of decapods, and of the nature of their extinction threats has improved greatly in recent years, and has enabled the development of species conservation strategies. This volume focuses on saving threatened species from extinction, and emphasizes the importance of the successful implementation of conservation action plans through cooperation between scientists, conservationists, educators, funding agencies, policy makers, and conservation agencies.

This volume honours Michael Türkay for his contributions to the study of decapod crustaceans. It consists of 32 papers, mainly relating to Decapoda, that deal with topics as diverse as taxonomy, systematics, zoogeography, morphology, palaeontology, genetics, general biology and ecology.

This book is a generic revision of the entire caligid family, which has not been reviewed and revised since its establishment in 1834 by Burmeister. It includes detailed descriptions of all genera within the family along with a discussion on the taxonomic status of the genera previously belonging to the Euryphoridae and compiles an extensive array of information and literature regarding "sea lice" into one book. The external morphology, functional morphology, life history, and host-parasite relationships of the Caligidae are presented. A key to the genera of the Caligidae is provided. Because this family has become increasingly important due to their deleterious effects on fishes, especially cultured or farmed fishes throughout the world, aquaculturists have become very concerned about these “sea lice”.
