Info-metrics is a framework for modeling, reasoning, and drawing inferences under conditions of noisy and insufficient information. It is an interdisciplinary framework situated at the intersection of information theory, statistical inference, and decision-making under uncertainty. In Advances in Info-Metrics, Min Chen, J. Michael Dunn, Amos Golan, and Aman Ullah bring together a group of thirty experts to expand the study of info-metrics across the sciences and demonstrate how to solve problems using this interdisciplinary framework. Building on the theoretical underpinnings of info-metrics, the volume sheds new light on statistical inference, information, and general problem solving. This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of eight international workshops held in Gdańsk, Poland, in conjunction with the 24th International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, CAiSE 2012, in June 2012. The 35 full and 17 short revised papers were carefully selected from 104 submissions. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, CAiSE 2009, held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on June 8-12, 2009. The 36 papers presented in this book together with 6 keynote papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 230 submissions. The topics covered are model driven engineering, conceptual modeling, quality and data integration, goal-oriented requirements engineering, requirements and architecture, service orientation, Web service orchestration, value-driven modeling, workflow, business process modeling, and requirements engineering.

Foundations of Info-Metrics provides an overview of modeling and inference, rather than a problem specific model, and progresses from the simple premise that information is often insufficient to provide a unique answer for decisions we wish to make. Each decision, or solution, is derived from the available input information along with a choice of inferential procedure.

Networks of today are going through a rapid evolution and there are many emerging areas of information networking and their applications. Heterogeneous networking supported by recent technological advances in low power wireless communications along with silicon integration of various functionalities such as sensing, communications, intelligence and actuations are emerging as a critically important disruptive computer class based on a new platform, networking structure and interface that enable novel, low cost and high volume applications. Several of such applications have been difficult to realize because of many interconnections problems. To fulfill their large range of applications different kinds of networks need to collaborate and wired and next generation wireless systems should be integrated in order to develop high performance computing solutions to problems arising from the complexities of these networks. This volume covers the theory, design and applications of computer networks, distributed computing and information systems. The aim of the volume “Advanced Information Networking and Applications” is to provide latest research findings, innovative research results, methods and development techniques from both theoretical and practical perspectives related to the emerging areas of information networking and applications.

th CAiSE 2004 was the 16 in the series of International Conferences on Advanced Information Systems Engineering. In the year 2004 the conference was hosted by the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Riga Technical University, Latvia. Since the late 1980s, the CAiSE conferences have provided a forum for the presentation and exchange of research results and practical experiences within the ?eld of Information Systems Engineering. The conference theme of CAiSE 2004 was Knowledge and Model Driven Information Systems Engineering for Networked Organizations. Modern businesses and IT systems are facing an ever more complex en- ronment characterized by openness, variety, and change. Organizations are - coming less self-su?cient and increasingly dependent on business partners and other actors. These trends call for openness of business as well as IT systems, i.e. the ability to connect and interoperate with other systems. Furthermore, organizations are experiencing ever more variety in their business, in all c- ceivable dimensions. The di?erent competencies required by the workforce are multiplying. In the same way, the variety in technology is overwhelming with a multitude of languages, platforms, devices, standards, and products.
