Now here's a formula for near disaster: East Coast big-city guy, world-traveler, jounalist, and otherwise politically savvy fellow settles down in rural Alaska, where men are many and manly, and women with survival skills are good to count among your friends. He wants to fit in. But how does one learn to be a Mountain Man? By observing, imitating, and making near-fatal mistakes, that's how. The choices a boy has to make. Eat processed food or on-the-hoof food, learn to operate a chainsaw or freeze to death, figure out what a bunny boot is or lose a few toes, and by the way, which end of he barrel points up? This is the story of Doug's first difficult winter in a one-room cabin, trying to stay alive and come out of it with some semblance of Alaska cool. With side-splitting, self-depreciating humor, Doug shares his attempts to elevate himself past his perpetual state of greenhorn-ness by aligning himself with tough sourdoughs to someday claim the title of manly Mountain Man.

Ever heard of crashing a party? Well, I crashed the lives of two of the hottest guys I've ever laid eyes on.Literally.I'm not interested in another relationship. I'm done with heartbreak, humiliation and pain. But when my little plane takes a nosedive in an Alaskan field, it seems like fate has other plans for me.Two tall, sexy mountain men. One with blue eyes and one with eyes the color of steel, rescue me from the wreckage. They nurse me back to health, caring for me day and night in the middle of the biggest snow storm we've seen this year.Did I mention they're both ex-SEALs? They grew up together, joined the military together and moved to Alaska together. And now they both want me-- together--at the same time. I've never been shared by two men. Hell, I had all but sworn off all guys before this. But the idea of both their hands roaming my flesh. Both their mouths tasting my tender skin. Both their tongues exploring me. Both their c*cks filling me.Well, what would you do?

Andy Russell has been a trapper, cowboy, bronco-buster, trail guide, grizzly hunter, nature photographer and filmmaker, lecturer, and fighter for the environment. This is the story of his adventures as a trail guide in the "standing-on-end country" of southern Alberta and British Columbia, and into the Yukon and Alaska. He recounts his experiences shepherding rich "sports" through the primeval wilderness in search of fish and game, often finding more than they bargained for. Above all, the book is about the immense changes that have transformed life in the Canadian Rockies over the past century. Memoirs of a Mountain Man is a lively, sensitively-observed account of outdoors life in some of the most awesome landscapes on the planet.

Letters from Alaska Someone has commented that the Bartoo family is made of people who are highly literate, adventurous, and in love with the outdoors and animals. From the articles in this collection, I think any reader will agree with that. In their 30 to 40 years of living in Alaska, my mom and dad wrote many things to describe what their life was like. Some were letters written to family and friends, some were trapping logs, some were just personal accounts of activities on hunting trips and other travels, often written strictly for their own enjoyment. My mother and dad were over 50 when they moved to Alaska, and started a new life there. From my mothers letters over the years, she tells all about their life in Alaska in the 20th century. She makes the stories of their experiences come alive: hunting for moose, goats, or caribou; then fishing for salmon and halibut, and how they lost the Salmon Derby; and their fur trapping of mink, martin, etc. The perennial question folks ask, Whats it like to live in Alaska? Mom answers from her viewpoint, both in showing details of daily routines of growing flowers while weeding and feeding mosquitoes, as well as how to prepare for spending weeks or months at a time in the bush on their annual trapping trip.
