Applied Technologies

This volume constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Conference on Applied Technologies, ICAT 2021, held in Quito, Ecuador, in October 2021. The 40 papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 201 submissions. The papers are organized according to the following topics: communication; computing; e-government and e-participation; e-learning; electronics; general track; intelligent systems; machine vision; security; technology trends.

This book is based on a selection of the most original articles published in the past year on new technological advances in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases. The authors of these papers were invited to contribute to this volume with critical reviews of their recent results and a discussion of the clinical implications of these findings. Technical innovations in the treatment of respiratory diseases involve many aspects from basic physics to pathophysiology and clinical experience in pulmonary and critical care medicine. The book therefore covers a broad spectrum of topics including mechanical ventilation, ventilator modes, new pharmacological treatments during ventilation, prevention of ventilator-associated infections, technologies in anesthesiology, pulmonary rehabilitation, telemonitoring in pediatric and neonatal critical care and assistance in chronic respiratory failure. Diagnostic methods such as polysomnography and ultrasound are considered as well as cardiopulmonary resuscitation methods and new options in inhalation therapies. Furthermore, the role of the environment in respiratory health problems is analyzed, and organizational issues in disaster management and intensive care are highlighted. Intended to help clinicians understand the highly technological diagnostic and therapeutic methods available today, this book will be indispensable for anyone caring for children or adults with respiratory problems, both in the ICU and in daily practice.

This book features selected papers from the International Conference on Communication and Applied Technologies (ICOMTA 2022), jointly organized by the Universidad del Rosario (Bogotá, Colombia) and the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana (Cuenca, Ecuador), and as collaborators at the University of Vigo (Galicia, Spain), the University of Santiago de Compostela-Political Research Team (Galicia, Spain), and the Network of Communication Researchers of Ecuador (RICE), during August, 31–September 2, 2022. It covers recent advances in the field of digital communication and processes, digital social media, software, big data, data mining, and intelligent systems.

This collection of papers is the result of a workshop sponsored by NATO's Defense Research Group Panel 8 in the Fall of 1991. The workshop is the second of a series, the fIrst of which was held in the Spring of 1985. As you study these papers, recall that this workshop occurred during the time that many changes were occurring in Eastern Europe and world wide. The need to identify training technologies for maintaining a capable and ready force during times of decreases in military force structure was, and is currently, our challenge. The opportunities for these technologies to provide a service and opportunity for nonmilitary usage is our future. Therefore this workshop maintained its focus on technology and application, regardless of the user. One of the world’s leading problems in the field of national security is protection of borders and borderlands. This book addresses multiple issues on advanced innovative methods of multi-level control of both ground (UGVs) and aerial drones (UAVs). Those objects combined with innovative algorithms become autonomous objects capable of patrolling chosen borderland areas by themselves and automatically inform the operator of the system about potential place of detection of a specific incident. This is achieved by using sophisticated methods of generation of non-collision trajectory for those types of objects and enabling automatic integration of both ground and aerial unmanned vehicles. The topics included in this book also cover presentation of complete information and communication technology (ICT) systems capable of control, observation and detection of various types of incidents and threats. This book is a valuable source of information for constructors and developers of such solutions for uniformed services.
