Despite the tremendous growth in the field of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) evidenced in the initial phases of its development in the early twentieth century, scientific focus has shifted in recent years toward the study of physiology and pathophysiology that span the spatial scales of the molecule, cell, tissue, and organ. Intensified research activities over the past 15 years have justified efforts toward molecular and cellular imaging, dual-modality imaging systems, real-time acquisitions, dedicated image processing techniques and applications, and the critical evaluation of their potential translational value for use in the clinic. The integrative focus on molecular-cellular-tissue-organ function and dysfunction has taken a primary role in modern, personalized medicine, and it is envisaged to continue to do so, as accumulated knowledge from basic and clinical science work continues to elucidate molecular, cellular, and physiological/pathophysiological pathways and mechanisms. In this scientific effort, MRI continues to play a critical and synergistic role from the perspectives of basic science, diagnosis, and clinical interventional/therapeutic approaches. Within the realm of the current role of MRI in modern medicine, this book summarizes state-of-the-art direct and derived MRI methodologies and approaches as applied toward the assessment of cellular and organ function and dysfunction. The contributions in this effort are not excessive but few, comprehensive, and distinguished and of high quality. The topic areas can be generalized to find applications in other scientific areas and span both brain and cardiac applications, extending interest to wider audiences.

Endometriosis is a common and serious disease that is estimated to cost the world economy $9.7 billion a year. Most of these costs come from lost productivity at work. As such, it is important to help women receive earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment. This book presents a comprehensive overview of endometriosis, including information on molecular diagnostics and imaging methods for early detection as well as new, less-invasive treatments that preserve women’s fertility.

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) involves the creation of computer systems that can do activities that would ordinarily require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision making, and language translation. Through increasingly complex programming approaches, it has been transforming and advancing the discipline of computer science. The Handbook of Research on AI Methods and Applications in Computer Engineering illuminates how today’s computer engineers and scientists can use AI in real-world applications. It focuses on a few current and emergent AI applications, allowing a more in-depth discussion of each topic. Covering topics such as biomedical research applications, navigation systems, and search engines, this premier reference source is an excellent resource for computer scientists, computer engineers, IT managers, students and educators of higher education, librarians, researchers, and academicians.

Writing or managing a scientific book, as it is known today, depends on a series of major activities, such as regrouping researchers, reviewing chapters, informing and exchanging with contributors, and at the very least, motivating them to achieve the objective of publication. The idea of this book arose from many years of work in biomechanics, health disease, and rehabilitation. Through exchanges with authors from several countries, we learned much from each other, and we decided with the publisher to transfer this knowledge to readers interested in the current understanding of the impact of biomechanics in the analysis of movement and its optimization. The main objective is to provide some interesting articles that show the scope of biomechanical analysis and technologies in human behavior tasks. Engineers, researchers, and students from biomedical engineering and health sciences, as well as industrial professionals, can benefit from this compendium of knowledge about biomechanics applied to the human body.

The advent and rapid diffusion of advanced multidetector-row scanner technology offers comprehensive evaluation of different anatomic structures in daily practice. The aim of this book is to introduce the applications of CT imaging in not only general medicine but also in different fields especially in veterinary medicine, dentistry, and engineering. Recent developments in CT technology have led to a widening of its applications on many areas like material testing in engineering, 3D evaluation of teeth, and the vascular and cardiac evaluations of small animals.
