The major goals of teaching in general, and science teaching, in particular, are to develop a scientific attitude among the pupils and to make them analytical pattern in thinking. Scientific Attitude and Cognitive Styles discusses the concepts, constructs tools and procedures for the measurement of these two variables. Based on an extensive research on school going adolescents, this book first gives a comprehensive survey of the work done in the past and then elucidated the domain wise components of the scientific attitude, obtained through factor analysis of scientific attitude scores. Then it deals with the effect of major educational, psychological and sociological factors on cognitive styles and scientific attitude and the inter-relationship between these two variables. It first describes the extent to which the scientific attitude and the field-dependent and field-independent cognitive styles exist in our school going adolescents. At the end, it discuses the implications of the findings for researchers, teachers and teacher-educators. The book will be useful for post-graduate students, researchers and teachers working in the fields of education, psychology, and sociology.

This book de-emphasizes the formal mathematical description of spacecraft on-board attitude and orbit applications in favor of a more qualitative, concept-oriented presentation of these topics. The information presented in this book was originally given as a set of lectures in 1999 and 2000 instigated by a NASA Flight Software Branch Chief at Goddard Space Flight Center. The Branch Chief later suggested this book. It provides an approachable insight into the area and is not intended as an essential reference work. ACS Without an Attitude is intended for programmers and testers new to the field who are seeking a commonsense understanding of the subject matter they are coding and testing in the hope that they will reduce their risk of introducing or missing the key software bug that causes an abrupt termination in their spacecraft’s mission. In addition, the book will provide managers and others working with spacecraft with a basic understanding of this subject.

This book argues that the critical histories of international law must move beyond a mere historiographical attitude and promotes radical historical critique in order to unbridle disciplinary imagination in international law.

Social psychologists have long recognized the possibility that attitudes might differ from one another in terms of their strength, but only recently had the profound implications of this view been explored. No theoretical technique exists yet that enables the engineer to completely determine the stability of practical complex spacecraft attitude control systems. In this dissertation, a stability approach is developed that utilizes a computer simulation in conjunction with theoretical techniques to locate the potentially troublesome regions of state space and explore their acceptability. It is shown in Part I that for general physical systems, x = f(x), all limit cycles are associated with equilibrium points that lie "inside" the limit cycles. Thus, if no equilibrium point exists in a region, then no limit cycle is contained in that region. Special properties of limit cycles and equilibrium points are discussed and illustrated. In Part II, equilibrium points are found analytically for spacecraft attitude control systems. A method is devised to determine stability near these equilibrium points. Then, instead of utilizing a uniform or random n-dimensional grid of computer initial conditions, a grid is concentrated around a few calculated points. Several practical examples of actual systems are presented. When control systems are viewed in this light, a high degree of confidence is gained from far fewer computer runs than previously needed.
