This is a fascinating portrait of Ethiopian writers of fiction of the 20th century and an in-depth analysis of the history of the development of Amharic literature and those who have shaped it. The range of writers covered varies from the aristocrats, educators and pioneers to the latest revolutionary writers. This work of well over a decade, is dedicated to Esi Ayensu of Cape Coast, and to the late Clive Compton, Barrister-At-Law and the late MaryAnn Compton, my loving parents who saw to it that I went to school, learned good manners and be polite, and also strong, for you may suffer long for what you may want. Everyone comes under my microscopic pen and my impeccable candor in this scholarly historical drama of love and war. And as an American I look out for the interest of the entire vast region, from as far down to Brazil Amazon, to U.S.A, Canada, Carribean Island, hoping Americans will read and enjoy my work. But this is too narrow. From my studies in Literature at U.C.L.A. where I earned a B.A. in Literature, on to my M.A. in Education at Georgia State University and my subsequent admission in the Doctoral program, I was taught NOT to see the tree but the entire forest. So now I hope that the entire World will read and enjoy my book and gain from it. It is sheer fun for me to read, create, write, and bring out my artistry, remembering always that this is what distinguishes me from the goat, the cow, the donkey and makes me human.
