People all over the world have seen Los Angeles’s famed "Hollywood" sign and the iconic domed Griffith Observatory. Both are part of Griffith Park, a place visited by more than 10 million people each year--more than Yosemite and Grand Canyon National Parks combined. Rugged and vast, the 4,511-acre Griffith Park encompasses a sprawling 70-mile long network of trails, ranging from paved paths through manicured landscapes to challenging ridgeline climbs, and is a destination for hikers, trail runners, cyclists, equestrians, picnickers, and museum-goers. It’s a unique outdoor space in a city that is not well known for its outdoor amenities. Discovering Griffith Park uses the park’s extensive trail network as an anchor to explore the park in full, whether on foot, wheel, or hoof. Readers will also find out where the best views of the Hollywood sign are, where they can catch free Shakespeare on summer evenings, and how to attend one of the legendary Los Angeles Breakfast Club meetings for good food, good friends, and a bit of early morning learning

Discover the amazing true story of P-22, the wild cougar living in Los Angeles, in this inspiring picture book. P-22, the famed “Hollywood Cougar,” was born in a national park near Los Angeles, California. When it was time for him to leave home and stake a claim to his own territory, he embarked on a perilous journey—somehow crossing sixteen lanes of the world’s worst traffic—to make his home in LA’s Griffith Park, overlooking the famed Hollywood sign. But Griffith Park is a tiny territory for a mountain lion, and P-22’s life has been filled with struggles. Residents of Los Angeles have embraced this brave cougar as their own and, along with the scientists monitoring P-22, raised money to build a wildlife bridge across Highway 101 to help cougars and other wildlife safely expand their territories and build new homes—ensuring their survival for years to come.

Griffith J. Griffith, born in South Wales in 1850, emigrated to America in 1866, moved to San Francisco in 1873, became a mining correspondent for the Alta California newspaper, accumulated a fortune, bought much of the former Rancho Los Feliz, married well, and donated 3,015 acres of his rancho land--Griffith Park--to the City of Los Angeles in 1896. In 1903, during a moment of "alcoholic insanity," he shot his wife and subsequently spent two years in San Quentin. After his release, Griffith sobered up, worked at redemption, and donated another 1,000 acres along the Los Angeles River to the City. Upon his death in 1919, he bequeathed the bulk of his $1.5 million estate to build the Greek Theater and the Griffith Observatory. The Griffith J. Griffith story is one of achievement, beneficence, fall, and redemption.
