All immigrants to America have a story with the American Dream, a story sometimes intimately intertwined with personal dreams. My story might be a surprising, if not maybe an unexpected one diverging from the usual account of pitiful existence in Haitis slums or that of struggle for adaptation to Americas way of life by one of Haitis boat people who landed on South Floridas coast. It is a story that starts from the lower plains of the Artibonite Valley in Haiti with a dream from my great grandfather, Joizil Estim, and continues in the United States, ultimately in Powell, Ohio. It is the story of a Haitian immigrant born in the small coastal town of Saint-Marc, Haiti. It evolves with my experiences growing up in my native country where my formative years were influenced by a connection to a diverse sociocultural environment. It progresses with my interaction with other societal enclaves in foreign lands like Germany and ultimately in the United States. It is an account of dreams fulfilled or unfulfilled, due not only to factors such as the convergence of different motivational agents (dreambuilders), the winds blowing on corporate America, whether in Haiti or the United States, but also to different conditions such as country of origin, globalization, social class, and Afro-ethnicity in America (dreamkillers). It is the story of coping with life changes, of integration into the American mainstream, of successes and disappointments of an immigrant from Haiti. But it is more than the story of an immigrant; it also reflects in a way the struggle of all immigrants coping with the pursuit of the American Dream and the quest for adaptation and continuous learning. It relates to all those who have wrestled with their dreams, those who have learned to make the best out of lifes circumstances and keep a positive outlook in the era we live in. Dreambuilders, dreamkillers are in all walks of life.

The World of the Avatar It is fascinating to have the desire to be aware of what is happening in the Universe, our Planet and within the group of souls around us and indeed our very own personal and intimate life. Some individuals have reached this current incarnation and are working their way toward feeling the integration of many levels of illumination. The truth is that we touch all of these areas at a deeper level, and the soul (thoughts and feelings) will determine if we are willing to embrace the experience this time around. In the increasing circles of our growth and awareness, (and I choose to call them circles rather than levels for specific reasons) the very essence of the feeling generated inside of us is calling for a deeper and higher view through our hierarchy of needs as described and recently verified in the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs as he originally taught. No level is lessor or to be belittled and the full integration of these logical categories is completely necessary with both our human and divine natures. None are to be seen as weakness or being lessor but only the next step in our evolution toward a heavenly existence of peace, love, wisdom and self-actualization toward Transcendence to a current Holy Place in our own being. In April 2005, two days after my seventy-sixth birthday, I became the Protestant chaplain at California Correctional Center in Susanville, California. The warden hired me for the job of creating a faith-based rehabilitation program, taught by inmates, supported by unpaid outside volunteers. It was anticipated that it could be a rehabilitation program for the twenty-six state prisons in California, as well a challenge for the myriad jails and prisons throughout the United States. To overcome the warehousing model of incarcerating and housing inmates in prisons throughout most prison systems, it is imperative that inexpensive programs be developed to counteract the chilling effect of sparse and ineffective free-time support for the inmate population. California recidivism rates in state prisons exceed 80 percent. It is expected that its much the same across the United States. Something needs to be done to counteract this, and the CCC model is one attempt to do it. Included in this book are anecdotal examples and testimonies that point to this possibility. The challenges, or barrels, related in this attempt to change the recidivism rate at one institution tell us it wont be easy. New ideas are hard to come by in prison; the old, and tried and failed to often have the upper hand in the operation of state prisons in California. . As you follow my story, you will see how and who are the advocates and foes of change in the way prisons are operated. The story told here can benefit the families of the more than one million inmates in the prisons and jails in America.
