Professor Rachel Buddywell, Chair of the world-wide Commission, finds her own life story enmeshed in her revealing humanitys 14th paradigm shift there is no inexplicable, just the unexplained as science encompasses the traditional realms of theology and philosophy. Her whole life has fashioned her for the unique task she confronts as Commission Chair. The influences that made her are commonplace, yet have produced a woman who is not. As a cognitive scientist, aided by presenters in anthropology, neuro-science, zoology and psychiatry, she weaves, amidst the conflicting objectives of her fellow Commissioners, the disparate scientific disciplines into a finished tapestry. Delegates and the Commissioners find the implications of todays science simultaneously thrilling and horrifying but the science exist, so the genie is out of the bottle. Her unconventional love unbolts her lifes lynchpins, to seemingly mock her professional endeavours. This love confronts her work in the Commission and the core of who she is. The entwining of her professional life and her private life shapes her Commissions monumental report. The story blends her struggles to unite tensions from the Commissioners and pressures from Delegates to identify universal human traits to be inculcated into human clones. Some Delegates cannot see the new way of the world as it is now much less as it will be tomorrow. A paradigm shift by definition is a major change in scientific understanding that upends and replaces a prior paradigm. In the four decades before World War II, science, alive with new ideas, debates and discussions, produced paradigm shifts that underpin much of modern technology. With his newly earned Ph.D., in 1974 the author was invited to learn from two aged science-giants. In this book the author shares some of that knowledge plus knowledge he has picked up over a professional lifetime of nearly half a century. The author has made a number of paradigm shifts in the geosciences, planetary sciences, and astrophysical sciences. These include (1) recognizing that Earth's early formation as a Jupiter-like gas giant makes it possible to derive virtually all the geological and geodynamic behavior of our planet, a new paradigm that upends and replaces plate tectonics theory; (2) Earth's previously unanticipated, powerful, and variable energy sources, namely, a terra-centric nuclear fission georeactor and the stored energy of protoplanetary compression, including the paradigm shift nuclear georeactor origin of the geomagnetic field and the reasons for its variability; (3) a new climate science paradigm that particulate pollution, not carbon dioxide, is the primary cause of anthropogenic global warming; and, (4) new astrophysical paradigms that explain the thermonuclear ignition of stars, the dark matter surrounding galaxies, the origin of heavy elements, and the reason why the vast multitude of galaxies in the Universe display just a few prominent patterns of luminous stars.

This is a textbook for an undergraduate course in probability and statistics. The approximate prerequisites are two or three semesters of calculus and some linear algebra. Students attending the class include mathematics, engineering, and computer science majors.

Inflationary cosmology has been developed over the last twenty years to remedy serious shortcomings in the standard hot big bang model of the universe. This textbook, first published in 2005, explains the basis of modern cosmology and shows where the theoretical results come from. The book is divided into two parts; the first deals with the homogeneous and isotropic model of the Universe, the second part discusses how inhomogeneities can explain its structure. Established material such as the inflation and quantum cosmological perturbation are presented in great detail, however the reader is brought to the frontiers of current cosmological research by the discussion of more speculative ideas. An ideal textbook for both advanced students of physics and astrophysics, all of the necessary background material is included in every chapter and no prior knowledge of general relativity and quantum field theory is assumed.

This book reports on research and developments in human-technology interaction. The human aspects are analyzed in detail. The book is based on contributions presented at the 3rd International Conference on Human Interaction and Emerging Technologies: Future Applications, IHIET 2020, held on August 27-29, 2020. It offers a timely survey and a practice-oriented reference guide to researchers and professionals dealing with design and/or management of the new generation of service systems.

A book focused solely on Andean Cloud Forests (ACF) has never been published. ACF are high biodiversity ecosystems in the Neotropics with a large proportion of endemic species, and are important for the hydrology of entire regions. They provide water for large parts of the Amazon basin, for example. Here I take advantage of my many years working in ACF in Ecuador, to edit this book that contains the following sections: (1) ACF over space and time, (2) Hydrology, (3) Light and the Carbon cycle, (4) Soil, litter, fungi and nutrient cycling, (5) Plants, (6) Animals, and (7) Human impacts and management. Under this premise, international experts contributed chapters that consist of reviews of what is known about their topic, of what research they have done, and of what needs to be done in the future. This work is suitable for graduate students, professors, scientists, and researcher-oriented managers.
