Extended Abstracts Fall 2012

This volume features seventeen extended conference abstracts corresponding to selected talks given by participants at the CRM research program “Automorphisms of Free Groups: Algorithms, Geometry and Dynamics”, which took place at the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica in Barcelona in fall 2012. Most of them are short articles giving preliminary presentations of new results not yet published in regular research journals. The articles are the result from a direct collaboration among active researchers in the area after working in a dynamic and productive atmosphere. The book is intended for established researchers in the area of Group Theory, as well as for PhD and postdoc students who wish to learn more about the latest advances in this active area of research.

The two parts of the present volume contain extended conference abstracts corresponding to selected talks given by participants at the "Conference on Geometric Analysis" (thirteen abstracts) and at the "Conference on Type Theory, Homotopy Theory and Univalent Foundations" (seven abstracts), both held at the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM) in Barcelona from July 1st to 5th, 2013, and from September 23th to 27th, 2013, respectively. Most of them are brief articles, containing preliminary presentations of new results not yet published in regular research journals. The articles are the result of a direct collaboration between active researchers in the area after working in a dynamic and productive atmosphere. The first part is about Geometric Analysis and Conformal Geometry; this modern field lies at the intersection of many branches of mathematics (Riemannian, Conformal, Complex or Algebraic Geometry, Calculus of Variations, PDE's, etc) and relates directly to the physical world, since many natural phenomena posses an intrinsic geometric content. The second part is about Type Theory, Homotopy Theory and Univalent Foundations. The book is intended for established researchers, as well as for PhD and postdoctoral students who want to learn more about the latest advances in these highly active areas of research.

This book collects the abstracts of the mini-courses and lectures given during the Intensive Research Program “Spaces of Analytic Functions: Approximation, Interpolation, Sampling” which was held at the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (Barcelona) in October–December, 2019. The topics covered in this volume are approximation, interpolation and sampling problems in spaces of analytic functions, their applications to spectral theory, Gabor analysis and random analytic functions. In many places in the book, we see how a problem related to one of the topics is tackled with techniques and ideas coming from another. The book will be of interest for specialists in Complex Analysis, Function and Operator theory, Approximation theory, and their applications, but also for young people starting their research in these areas.

This is the first volume of the two-volume set (CCIS 617 and CCIS 618) that contains extended abstracts of the posters presented during the 18th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2016, held in Toronto, Canada, in July 2016. The total of 1287 papers and 186 posters presented at the HCII 2016 conferences was carefully reviewed and selected from 4354 submissions. These papers address the latest research and development efforts and highlight the human aspects of design and use of computing systems. The papers thoroughly cover the entire field of Human-Computer Interaction, addressing major advances in knowledge and effective use of computers in a variety of application areas. The papers included in this volume are organized in the following topical sections: design thinking, education and expertise; design and evaluation methods, techniques and tools; cognitive issues in HCI; information presentation and visualization; interaction design; design for older users; usable security and privacy; human modeling and ergonomics.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Entertainment Computing, ICEC 2014, held in Sydney, Australia, in October 2013. The 20 full papers, 6 short papers and 8 posters presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 62 submissions. In addition to these papers, the program featured 3 demonstration papers, and 2 workshops. The papers cover various aspects of entertainment computing including authoring, development, use and evaluation of digital entertainment artefacts and processes.

This is the first of a two-volume set (CCIS 373 and CCIS 374) that constitutes the extended abstracts of the posters presented during the 15th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2013, held in Las Vegas, USA, in July 2013, jointly with 12 other thematically similar conferences. The total of 1666 papers and 303 posters presented at the HCII 2013 conferences was carefully reviewed and selected from 5210 submissions. These papers address the latest research and development efforts and highlight the human aspects of design and use of computing systems. The papers accepted for presentation thoroughly cover the entire field of human-computer interaction, addressing major advances in knowledge and effective use of computers in a variety of application areas. The extended abstracts were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this two-volume set. The papers included in this volume are organized in the following topical sections: HCI design approaches, methods and techniques; usability methods, techniques and studies; universal access and eInclusion; multimodal and ambient interaction; cognitive and psychological aspects of interaction; perception and interaction; ergonomic and human modelling issues; capturing gaze, biosignals and brainwaves; development environments; product design, marketing and advertisement.

Authored by the developer of dressed photon science and technology as well as nanophotonics, this book outlines concepts of the subject using a novel theoretical framework that differs from conventional wave optics. It provides a quantum theoretical description of optical near fields and related problems that puts matter excitation such as electronic and vibrational ones on an equal footing with photons. By this description, optical near fields are interpreted as quasi-particles and named dressed photons which carry the material excitation energy in a nanometric space. The author then explores novel nanophotonic devices, fabrications, and energy conversion based on the theoretical picture of dressed photons. Further, this book looks at how the assembly of nanophotonic devices produces information and communication systems. This is the second of a two-volume set (CCIS 434 and CCIS 435) that constitutes the extended abstracts of the posters presented during the 16th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2014, held in Heraklion, Crete, Greece in June 2014 and consisting of 14 thematic conferences. The total of 1476 papers and 220 posters presented at the HCII 2014 conferences were carefully reviewed and selected from 4766 submissions. These papers address the latest research and development efforts and highlight the human aspects of design and use of computing systems. The papers accepted for presentation thoroughly cover the entire field of Human-Computer Interaction, addressing major advances in knowledge and effective use of computers in a variety of application areas. The extended abstracts were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this two-volume set. This volume contains posters’ extended abstracts addressing the following major topics: social media and social networks; learning and education; design for all; accessibility and assistive environments; design for aging; games and exergames; health and well-being; ergonomics and safety; HCI in business, tourism and transport; human-human and human-agent communication; user experience case studies.
