The aim of this book is to orient the residents on what OSCE is, based on the information available and experience of the faculty. This will also make the Residents confident and guide them on how to ace the exam. This book will also serve as a tool for the faculty involved in teaching and training at all levels including Formative assessments to enhance the clinical performance skills of the trainees. OSCE exams in India are different, especially in these challenging times of the COVID 19 pandemic, they have been modified in terms of time and structure by the NBE. The authors have tried to do their best to choose cases seen and expected to be seen by Family doctors. The cases selected are broad based, there are some repetitions, but just like each patient situation is unique, each station is unique. Residents will immensely benefit from the examples from this book, as it will give a perspective of how OSCE stations are constructed and can be answered. It will give them the desired knowledge and confidence to face the exam. Faculty can use this book to use the examples as a starting point and take it to a higher level for training and assessment. It's different, it's unique, the 2021 National Board- Family Medicine Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). The Pandemic has created an unprecedented situation and the National Board of Examinations (NBE) India, has found the best possible solution to it under the circumstances. 19 trainers from different specialties involved in teaching, training, and mentoring Family Medicine residents, have come together to compile this book. The authors have experience in national and international exams. This book has about 231 OSCE stations, based on the experience and expectations of the trainers, followed by answers and references. Some references are hypertexted linking them to journal articles, Guidelines and YouTube videos.

Highly successful in its first two editions, McWhinney's Textbook of Family Medicine is one of the seminal texts in the field. While many family medicine texts simply cover the disorders a practitioner might see in clinical practice (thus they become watered-down internal medicine texts),McWhinney defines the principles and practices of family medicine as a separate and distinct field of practice. His initial sections cover the basis principles and philosophies of family medicine and a later section discusses the approach to the patients with common diseases encountered in practice(these discussions not only address these clinical problems, but each is a workshop for incorporating what it means to be a family physician into everyday practice). The new edition is updated throughout with help from a group of reviewers and a new coauthor, Tom Freeman, who is Chairman of theDepartment of Family Medicine at McWhinney's institution, the University of Western Ontario.

New material in a new format is contained in this third edition of Family Medicine. The comprehensive text nevertheless remains true to the goal of previous editions in offering a scientific approach to health and illness within the context of the family. Using up-to-date clinical material, the book demonstrates how the family physician may provide comprehensive health care to persons of all ages. The first part of Family Medicine discusses such topics as the conceptual basis of family as discipline and specialty, problem differentiation, family-centered health care, longitudinal care, clinical reasoning, and resource management. The second part explores both problems related to organs and systems and problems related to the person, family and community, including: pregnancy, care of infants, children, adolescents, and the elderly; behavioral and psychiatric problems; emergency and critical care; sports medicine; alcoholism and substance misuse; environmental health; and neoplastic and infectious diseases. Family Medicine, with its greatly expanded in-depth coverage of the most commonly encountered clinical core problems and procedures in family medicine, continues to be a textbook written and edited by family physicians for family physicians.

Fundamentals of Family Medicine, Third Edition, describes the current approach to common problems in family practice. The book tells how family physicians provide high-quality, comprehensive, and ongoing health care for patients and families, based on current evidence and time-tested methods in clinical practice. Clinical scenarios that include case studies and questions for group discussion reinforce the book's clinical topics. The clinical scenarios all concern members of the Nelson family- a multigenerational extended family whose members visit the family physician with a variety of health concerns and whose dynamics evolve from chapter to chapter. The discussion questions allow the group to consider both the biomedical and psychosocial aspects of problems such as headache, obstructive airway disease, diabetes mellitus, athletic injuries, domestic violence, care of the dying patient, and the family physicians's role in dealing with terrorist events. The book is intended to be a reference source for the care of diseases family physicians are likely to see and as the course textbook for medical students in family medicine clerkships in medical school. This book will help health professionals provide up-to-date care for their patients, and will allow students to view clinical issues through the eyes of the family physician. Fundamentals of Family Medicine, Third Edition, ideally is used as a companion to Family Medicine: Principles and Practice, Sixth Edition, edited by Robert B. Taylor et al.
