"G'day Boss! is the first study of its kind into the enormously diverse cultures of today's Australian workplaces. It is designed especially to help workers, employers, exporters and all those who in other ways deal with Australian business to understand, adapt and succeed in a huge melting pot of personalities and beliefs. Barbara West and Frances Murphy, two well-travelled academics of the working world, talked to hundreds of migrants now based in Australia from around the globe, listening to their stories and delving deep into their attitudes, perceptions, hearts and minds to find out how they adapted and coped in their new country, and specifically in their new workplaces. West and Murphy analysed these interviews as well as numerous research studies into Australian culture, values, behaviour and communication to unearth invaluable insights and priceless advise for any worker or business in the country." - back cover.

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Culture and Applied Geography, grade: 2,0, University of Leipzig (Institut für Anglistik), language: English, abstract: Every January the Australian population celebrates its national day - Australia Day - with breathtaking fireworks and sumptuous barbecues. However, this public holiday is accompanied by numerous protests by the indigenous community of Australia. For the majority of Indigenous Australians who have long suffered under colonial domination, Australia Day is not a day of joy, but rather a day of political and cultural struggle. Since the 19th century the Indigenous Australians - the communities of Aboriginals and Torres Straight Islanders - have fought hard for their equality within the Australian community. However, the process of reconciliation between Indigenous and non-indigenous Australians began only in earnest in the 1960s and the Indigenous are still at a disadvantage compared to their non-indigenous counterparts today. There is a lively debate about the pros and cons of Australia Day. Some Australians wish to change the date of Australia Day in order to advance the process of reconciliation, while the Australia Day National Committee appeals to all Australians to celebrate Australia Day and reflect on the Australian history.
