Pope John XXIII called the Second Vatican Council so that the Church's doctrine might be "more widely known, more deeply understood, and more penetrating in its effects." However, since the close of the Council in 1965, the results are wanting. Rather than announcing the gospel boldly in the present age, the Church has been seemingly reduced to silence. How did she lose her voice? How did the structures of proclamation, intended to hand on the Catholic faith, devolve and even contribute to vaporizing a Catholic culture? Because He Has Spoken to Us traces such developments from fixed points drawn from the fluid theology of Karl Rahner to their postmodern condition--successive steps that usher in the crisis by subduing, dismissing, and silencing the tradition. This postconciliar anthropocentric structure can now be better understood, critiqued, and displaced by a Ratzingerian approach. Rather than embracing a "given" demanded by contemporary context, Ratzinger proposes the revelation of the Logos in Jesus Christ as the "given," the true object of Christian faith. His alternate proposal requires the courage to face the full scope of the Christian structure, accessed through the Church's tradition, and a willingness to proclaim the gospel personally and with humble confidence.

He Speaks in the Silence is about Diane Comer’s search for the kind of intimacy with God every woman longs for. It is a story of trying to be a good girl, of following the rules, of longing for a satisfaction that eludes us. Disappointed with all Diane had been told was supposed to fulfill her, she begged God in desperation to give her more. And He did. But first He took her through a trial so debilitating it almost destroyed what little faith she had. He let her go deaf. Using vivid parallels between her deafness and every woman’s struggle to hear God, this book shows women not only how Diane, as a deaf woman, hears in everyday life, but also how she can learn to listen to God in the midst of her own loud life, finding intimacy with God and the deep soul satisfaction she longs for.

For through it God reveals himself and his purpose to us; and in it we discover his fellowship and grace. Packer presents the case for reliability of the Bible and urges us to return with open hearts to reading God's word, and to discovering its overwhelming power in our lives. This challenging sequel to Knowing God is a great resource for the Christian journey.

Featuring ordinary people, celebrities, game shows, hidden cameras, everyday situations, and humorous or dramatic situations, reality TV is one of the fastest growing and important popular culture trends of the past decade, with roots reaching back to the days of radio. The Tube Has Spoken provides an analysis of the growing phenomenon of reality TV, its evolution as a genre, and how it has been shaped by cultural history. This collection of essays looks at a wide spectrum of shows airing from the 1950s to the present, addressing some of the most popular programs including Alan Funt's Candid Camera, Big Brother, Wife Swap, Kid Nation, and The Biggest Loser. It offers both a multidisciplinary approach and a cross-cultural perspective, considering Australian, Canadian, British, and American programs. In addition, the book explores how popular culture shapes modern western values; for example, both An American Family and its British counterpart, The Family, showcase the decline of the nuclear family in response to materialistic pressures and the modern ethos of individualism. This collection highlights how reality TV has altered the tastes and values of audiences in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. It analyzes how reality TV programs reflect the tensions between the individual and the community, the transformative power of technology, the creation of the celebrity, and the breakdown of public and private spheres.

This book amplifies and exemplifies what God has spoken that came to pass. It is to help you see God not in a new dimension but in his original dimension—the one that speaks and comes to pass; the one that speaks and follows through; the covenant keeper, the unchanging changer. This book is to guide you methodically and carefully to listen to the Word of God, the promises of God and to see it, not only unfold in your personal life but to see it fulfilled, because once he has spoken, it will come to pass. That is why he says with emphasis and clarity, “The grass withers, the flower fades: but the Word of our God shall stand forever.” Chapter one helps you to understand the legitimacy, the power, and the credibility in the Word of our God. Chapter two showcases and authenticates what God has done particularly through Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, and others. Chapter three is the icing on the cake, what God did for Ishmael, because of the value he puts on his Word and power and authority behind it. Chapter four shows how God speaks so that you can distill his promises for yourself. Chapter five details why God speaks. Chapter six is concerned with how you can benefit, maximize, and apply the Word of God to your life. Chapter seven is to help you sing Hallelujah over the situations of your life, when you can see that with God, all things are possible. The purpose of this book is to encourage you to crave to hear the Word of God for your situation. Once God has spoken to your situation, consider it done. No matter how hopeless, helpless, disappointing, unexplainable, or discouraging the situation may be, whatever he has spoken shall come to pass.

The Prophets have spoken. It is wise to know what they said. “It’s a fascinating story, a story you really must know for yourself.” History is strewn with wars and scrapping over religion. With the advent of the global village, people of different beliefs are being pressed up against each other, and the potential for major conflict is enormous. It behooves us to know what our neighbours believe and why they believe it. Though we may never agree with them, when we know what people believe, at the very least, we can intelligently disagree without being disagreeable. All that the Prophets have Spoken is about the most widely distributed and most vehemently disputed book in history—the Bible. If you are one of those who seriously wants to understand the message of the Prophets, then this book is for you.
