NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A “dazzling, cinematic, intimate, lyrical” (Roxane Gay) epic of betrayal, love, and fate that spans five generations of an Indigenous Chicano family in the American West, from the author of the National Book Award finalist Sabrina & Corina “Sometimes you just step into a book and let it wash over you, like you’re swimming under a big, sparkling night sky.”—Celeste Ng, author of Little Fires Everywhere and Everything I Never Told You A PHENOMENAL BOOK CLUB PICK AND AN AUDACIOUS BOOK CLUB PICK • ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: Book Riot There is one every generation, a seer who keeps the stories. Luz “Little Light” Lopez, a tea leaf reader and laundress, is left to fend for herself after her older brother, Diego, a snake charmer and factory worker, is run out of town by a violent white mob. As Luz navigates 1930s Denver, she begins to have visions that transport her to her Indigenous homeland in the nearby Lost Territory. Luz recollects her ancestors’ origins, how her family flourished, and how they were threatened. She bears witness to the sinister forces that have devastated her people and their homelands for generations. In the end, it is up to Luz to save her family stories from disappearing into oblivion. Written in Kali Fajardo-Anstine’s singular voice, the wildly entertaining and complex lives of the Lopez family fill the pages of this multigenerational western saga. Woman of Light is a transfixing novel about survival, family secrets, and love—filled with an unforgettable cast of characters, all of whom are just as special, memorable, and complicated as our beloved heroine, Luz. Dr. Jackie De Hon "bought" the culture's prescription for women while growing up in the 40s and 50s when women were allowed to be one of four thingswife/mother, teacher, nurse, or secretary. She educated herself as her children were growing up. Through her own experiences and her observation of the treatment of other women, she raised her own consciousnessas consciousness-raising missed Louisiana. She began writing and advocating publicly for women, children, and public education in the 70s. Seeking a wider audience so she could encourage more people to work for equity, she decided to publish this collection of perceptions, ideas, and concerns about women's and their families' everyday lives. She has taught communication on the university level and art in kindergarten through 12th grade. In addition, she administered the regional office of a federal job-retraining program for the Louisiana Department of Education before turning to full-time writing. De Hon now lives in Texas with her husband, a fat tabby cat, and a houseful of plants.

"In Paris is a window on the world's most stylish city by two quintessentially Parisian women Jeanne Damas, the it-girl, model, and actress, and Lauren Bastide, former editor-in-chief of French Elle. Dispelling the myth that there is only one type of Parisian woman, In Paris is made up of profiles of twenty different Parisiennes aged from fourteen to seventy, living in tiny studios or grand apartments, giving us a rare glimpse into their world their homes, their careers, their style, and, most importantly, what being Parisian means to them. The portraits are illustrated with gorgeous full-colour photographs in Jeanne Damas' inimitable style, as well as lists of secret Parisian hideaways and style tips- from the five different types of red wine to order depending on the occasion, and the bars to drink them in, to the best red lipsticks, and places to be kissed." --Publisher description.
