European archives hold historical voice recordings that were produced by linguists, ethnologists and musicologists during colonial rule in African countries. While these recordings reverberate with the polyphonic echoes of colonial knowledge production, to date, acoustic collections have rarely been consulted as sources of colonial history. In this book Anette Hoffmann engages with a Southern African audio-visual collection, which is located in five different institutions across Vienna, Austria. Several recordings collected by the anthropologist Rudolf Pch in August 1908 have been retranslated for this book. These translations provide new insights into Pchs collecting expedition to the Kalahari. Pchs narrative of his heroic journey is called into question by the Naro speakers comments, which address colonial violence and criticise the research practices of the anthropologist. By attending to the spoken texts on the recordings and reconnecting them to photographs, ethnographic objects, archival documentation and Pchs travelogue, Hoffmann offers a different reading of this research trip into a war zone.triesries.

“Don’t Listen For the Voice of God. Listen for His Echo.” When God really wants to get your attention, he doesn’t just say something once. He echoes. He speaks through a Sunday sermon, a chance conversation with a friend the next day, even a random email. The same theme, idea, impression, or lesson will repeat itself in surprising and unexpected ways until you realize that maybe, just maybe, God is at work. According to author Margaret Feinberg, the repetitive nature of a sacred echo gives us confidence that God really is prompting, guiding, or leading. The sacred echo reminds us to pay close attention – something important may be going on here. The sacred echo challenges us to prayerfully consider how God is at work in our life as well as in the lives of those around us. The sacred echo is an invitation to spiritual awakening. Margaret writes, “I want a relationship with God where prayer is as natural as breathing. If God is the one in whom we are to live and move and have our being, then I want my every inhale infused with his presence, my every exhale an extension of his love.” If that’s your desire too, let Sacred Echo be your guide to a deeper, more rewarding relationship with the God of the universe.

These brief meditations were gathered from his faithful daily devotional practice. They have the power to fuel your own quiet moments alone with the Almighty.

Acclaimed biographer and Bradbury scholar Sam Weller spent more than a decade interviewing the author Ray Bradbury, who himself admitted that "Sam Weller knows more about my life than I do." In Weller and Bradbury?s conversations, collected in 'Listen to the Echoes: The Ray Bradbury Interviews', a vivid portrait of Bradbury emerges: a creative genius, an opinionated and occasionally contrarian thinker, and a nostalgic futurist, longing for yesterday even as he looked forward. 'Listen to the Echoes: The Ray Bradbury Interviews' is the definitive collection of interviews with this American icon, illustrated with Sekizawa?s stunning color photographs (including previously unpublished images). Originally issued as a paperback in 2010 by Stop Smiling Books and Melville House Publishing, 'Listen to the Echoes' is now available in a full-color, larger-format edition with a new final chapter by Weller about Bradbury?s legacy since his death in 2012, and dozens of new photographs from the Bradbury archive.
