I have availed myself of the latest monographs and other writings on the subject in order to bring the information up to date; and if I am unable to name all my French confreres to whom I am under an obligation, it is partly because they are too numerous, and also because I could not have named them alone without doing some injustice to the hardworking men of the past generation, who did so much to increase the reputation of our mineral springs. But there is one name which I could not omit to mention - it is that of Dr Durand-Fardel, who has perhaps done more than all others to elevate hydro-therapeutics to the position of a special science.
