Why do men behave the way they do? The "science" of gender studies is less than 25 years old and it is only recently that scholars and popular authors interested in gender have started to examine the issues associated with masculinity.; This text is based on over 10 years research, and constructs a comprehensive theory of masculinity by exploring in great detail how men form their gender identities and how those identities influence their behaviour. The book examines the influence of 24 male messages, or gender norms - such as "be like your father", "faithful husband", "superman", and "nurturer" - that represent cultural expectations for masculinity in western societies. Drawing on a diverse sample of over 500 men from different classes, backgrounds, races and ethnic groups, the author describes how men learn these messages, how individual men respond to them, and how their influence changes over the course of a man's life.; This accessible text presents a general framework for masculinity and breaks new ground in understanding the construction of male gender identity.

Every once in a while, I get a chance to listen to broadcasts on radio or watch networking on television. And, the more and more I do this, the more and more I get deeply concerned with the quality of so-called religious material presented on such via comments, discussions, lectures, preachings, teachings, etc. Every so often, it is spiritually impressed upon me (I get led) to deal with some of the monumental misunderstandings that menaces the messianic ministry, mission, momentum, motion, motive, and movement. There are two strategies/tactics/ways to deal with this type of teaching and preaching: one is defensive and one is offensive. The offensive tactic/strategy/way to guard against it is to constantly teach and preach against it, thereby exposing it for what it is and minimizing it, if not eliminating it - this is referred to as the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; the defensive tactic/strategy/way to guard against it is to block or prevent it from entering your mind by literally putting a spiritual device of some-sort over your mind - this is referred to as the helmet of salvation. The material presented in this book is just a way to help us fight defensively and offensively by first knowing what we need to fight against. As a side note, the state of apostasy of the professing church is the final stage of the religious order just prior to the Rapture, which is phase one of two of our Christ’s Second Coming. I strongly admonish and request that each believer in Jesus Christ adopt the same attitude and mentality that the church of Berea adopted in the word of God, especially when it comes to the word of God.

1188 sermon suggestions -- One from every chapter in the Bible. Morgan's expositions sparkle as they enhance Bible texts from every chapter in the Bible. Concise and delightfully free of redundancy, these selections reveal the master expositor's keen, analytical insight into God's Word. To encourage preachers and Bible teachers to develop their own sermon and lesson themes creatively, the author mentions that these are sermon suggestions -- not sermons or sermon outlines. He intentionally left the notes untitled, "preferring to let the text of Scripture be their only caption." These penetrating truths, firmly anchored in Scripture, are best described by G. Campbell Morgan himself: On every page of...the "God-breathed Writings" there are many thoughts which stretch out like long, clear arms of light across the darkness, discovering things which otherwise were hidden, and often illuminating wider areas than those of the immediate context. They are searchlights. From the multitude of these, I have selected one in each chapter of the Bible. Perhaps the work will also serve to illustrate a method of showing how focal points of radiating light gather their radiance from the context.

* What is 'masculinity'? Is 'masculinities' a more appropriate term? * How are masculinities socially, culturally and historically shaped? * How are particular masculinities created, enacted and represented in specific settings? * How can masculinities best be researched and theorized? Masculinities and Culture explores how 'masculinities', or ways of 'being a man', are anchored in time and place; the products of socio-historical and cultural circumstances. It examines the emergence of a masculinity fit for Empire in the mid to late nineteenth century and, by way of contrast, the more recent media-driven, commercial New Man and New Lad masculinity. The author considers some of the media discourses shaping masculinities today, and the formation of specific masculinities in specific settings (such as prisons, hospitals and schools) which both define, and in turn are defined by, strongly held conceptions of acceptable masculine behaviour. He concludes by reviewing a range of ways in which masculinities might be researched, from fieldwork and auto/biographical and life history approaches through to semiotics and the use of both film and literary texts. This lively text provides a comprehensive introduction to contemporary debates concerning masculinities as gendered constructions, along with the means of researching and theorizing them.
