Photoshop is the world's leading creative digital tool and has a place in every digital artist's kit. This collection draws on the experience and expertise of three digital masters and Photoshop pros. These titles deliver creative insight, technical mastery, and inspiration, and show just how remarkable digital artistry can be. Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Studio Techniques: If you've ever wanted to understand complex concepts like curves and channels, or learn the logic behind Photoshop's keyboard commands, look no further. Photoshop guru Ben Willmore believes the only way to master Photoshop is to gain an under-the-hood understanding of the program this book focuses on the concepts, features, and techniques that will truly make a difference in how you use Photoshop 7 every day. (Adobe Press/Peachpit Press) Creative Thinking in Photoshop: Flex your creative muscles by exploring how Photoshop can unlock your creative potential. Traditional artists porting their skills to new media and inexperienced digital artists need to learn how to approach their work using digital tools especially Photoshop rather than relying solely on paper and pencil methods of conceptualization. Although there are books that walk users through toolsets or recipes for effects, none of these books focus on enhancing the creative process. Sharon Steuer explores the many facets of the creative process and underscores how they can be incorporated into the workflow of the digital artist. (New Riders Publishing) Photoshop Studio with Bert Monroy: Take an inspired journey through photo-realist painting and illustration techniques with artist Bert Monroy. This book helps the reader to envision and execute the fine-art possibilities of Photoshop, informed by Monroy's long experience with Photoshop (dating to the development of version 1) and his mastery of artistic technique and teaching. Come along on the journey and learn about textures, lighting and shadows, reflecting images, custom brushes, and more. (New Riders Publishing)

"From Show Boat (1936) to The Sound of Music (1965) and from Grease (1978) to Chicago (2002), many of the most beloved film musicals in Hollywood history originated as Broadway shows. And in the three years since the original publication of the chapters in this volume (as The Oxford Handbook of Musical Theatre Screen Adaptations, 2019) the phenomenon has persisted, with new adaptations such as Cats, In the Heights, Tick, Tick...Boom!, Dear Evan Hansen, and Spielberg's remake of West Side Story. Yet in general, the number of screen adaptations of Broadway musicals and operettas is far greater than the number that have met with success, especially both critical and commercial success (i.e., good reviews and a profit at the box office). This is all the more surprising since Hollywood tended almost (if not quite) exclusively to buy the rights to musicals that had been successful on the stage as a means of guaranteeing a profitable outcome. After all, musicals that had already enjoyed long runs and nationwide productions on the stage ought to have a readymade audience. One might also think that because the authors had puzzled over the individual challenges posed by such properties in their stage incarnations, it ought to be easier to turn them into strong film musicals. But for every West Side Story there were several Finian's Rainbows, Man of La Manchas, and Carousels: movies that simply did not do justice to the 'enchanted evenings' these works provided in their stage incarnations"--

Building the American Dream depicts the journey of author, Gary Knapp, from his very beginnings on a rural dairy farm in southern Michigan through his teens, his tour of duty in the army, his broadcast training and then follows him as he begins his career in radio broadcasting and branches into television. Through his remarkable passion, ingenuity and enormous energy, he overcomes whatever hurdles he encounters and turns them into advantages which eventually enable him to build a network of television stations to serve the northern Michigan area. His journey is fueled by his inability to accept defeat, his persistence in finding a way to accomplish his goals by creating innovative financing when the traditional routes failed him, his trust in, and loyalty to reliable advisors and a family who supported him through thick and thin. The reader gets a first hand look at what goes on behind the scenes in radio and television production, sales and management. They accompany him as he moves from one phase of his interesting career to the next. Author Knapp, takes us back to the days of our childhood and the simple good life about which we all like to reminisce. We can smell his mom's apple pie baking as the family gathers around the radio set listening to Fibber McGee and Molly. He stimulates our memories of past parades, local celebrations, community events which he covered as a newsman and broadcaster and recreates the home town atmosphere of typical small towns through out our country. This book, with its motivational and informative hints, could be considered a handbook on how to attain one's goals and dreams, or by some, a guideline showing the steps necessary to succeed in business ventures and by others, just a 'good read.' Gary Knapp has brought to life, a story, rich in human interest, history of radio and television, entrepreneurship and events in the town of Cadillac, Michigan, where Gary took broadcasting to a higher level while building his American dream.

How do people come up with truly original ideas? The answer is to think outside the box—way outside. For the past decade, Cyril Bouquet, Jean-Louis Barsoux, and Michael Wade, professors of innovation and strategy at IMD Business School, have studied inventors, scientists, doctors, entrepreneurs, and artists. These people, or “aliens,” as the authors call them, are able to make leaps of creativity, and use five patterns of thinking that distinguish them from the rest of us. These five patterns—Attention, Levitation, Imagination, Experimentation, and Navigation—lead to a fresh and flexible approach to problem-solving. Alien thinkers know how to free the imagination so it can detect hard-to-observe patterns. They practice deliberate ways to retreat from the world in order to see the big picture underlying a problem. And they approach ideas in systematic ways that reflect the constraints of reality. Through surprising and compelling stories, the authors show how readers can use this method to develop out-of-this-world ideas. ALIEN Thinking can help any of us find innovative solutions to the most difficult problems.

This critical introduction to British musical theatre since 1950 is the first book to discuss its post-war developments from the perspective of British – as opposed to American – popular culture. The genre is situated within the historical context of post-war British society in order to explore the range of forms through which significant sociocultural moments are represented. Introductory chapters analyse the way British musicals have responded to social change, the forms of popular theatre and music from which they have developed and their originality in elaborating new narrative strategies since the seventies. A key feature of the book is its close readings of twelve key works, from Salad Days (1954) and Oliver! (1960) to global smash hits such as Les Misérables (1985) and The Phantom of the Opera (1986) and beyond, including the latest critical and box-office success Matilda (2011). Also analysed are British favourites (Blood Brothers, 1983), cult shows (The Rocky Horror Show, 1975) and musicals with a pre-existing fan-base, such as Mamma Mia! (1999).
