"Fractional-Order Nonlinear Systems: Modeling, Analysis and Simulation" presents a study of fractional-order chaotic systems accompanied by Matlab programs for simulating their state space trajectories, which are shown in the illustrations in the book. Description of the chaotic systems is clearly presented and their analysis and numerical solution are done in an easy-to-follow manner. Simulink models for the selected fractional-order systems are also presented. The readers will understand the fundamentals of the fractional calculus, how real dynamical systems can be described using fractional derivatives and fractional differential equations, how such equations can be solved, and how to simulate and explore chaotic systems of fractional order. The book addresses to mathematicians, physicists, engineers, and other scientists interested in chaos phenomena or in fractional-order systems. It can be used in courses on dynamical systems, control theory, and applied mathematics at graduate or postgraduate level. Ivo Petráš is an Associate Professor of automatic control and the Director of the Institute of Control and Informatization of Production Processes, Faculty of BERG, Technical University of Košice, Slovak Republic. This invaluable book studies synchronization of coupled chaotic circuits and systems, as well as its applications. It shows how one can use stability results in nonlinear control to derive synchronization criteria for coupled chaotic circuits and systems. It also discusses the use of Lyapunov exponents in deriving synchronization criteria. Both the case of two coupled systems and the case of arbitrarily coupled arrays of systems are considered. The book examines how synchronization properties in arrays of coupled systems are dependent on graph-theoretical properties of the underlying coupling topology. Finally, it studies some applications of synchronized chaotic circuits and systems, including spread spectrum and secure communications, coupled map lattices and graph coloring. Contents:Synchronization in Two Coupled Chaotic SystemsSynchronization in Coupled Arrays of Chaotic SystemsSynchronization in Coupled Arrays: Dynamic CouplingGraph Topology and SynchronizationLyapunov Exponents Approach to SynchronizationAppendices:Some Linear Systems Theory and Matrix TheoryGraph-Theoretical Definitions and NotationsStability, Lyapunov's Direct Method and Lyapunov ExponentsChaotic Circuits and Systems Readership: Graduate students, researchers and academics in electrical engineering and nonlinear science. Keywords:Reviews:“Wu's book presents a very readable introduction to the synchronization of chaos and its application in circuits … the book is mathematically oriented and adequately formal for anyone who is interested in getting a good background in this area.”Mathematical Reviews “The book may be useful for students and researchers interested in the synchronization theory as well as for those who are interested in practical designing of coupled chaotic circuits.”Mathematics Abstracts

This book focuses on fractional calculus, presenting novel advances in both the theory and applications of non-integer order systems. At the end of the twentieth century it was predicted that it would be the calculus of the twenty-first century, and that prophecy is confirmed year after year. Now this mathematical tool is successfully used in a variety of research areas, like engineering (e.g. electrical, mechanical, chemical), dynamical systems modeling, analysis and synthesis (e.g technical, biological, economical) as well as in multidisciplinary areas (e.g. biochemistry, electrochemistry). As well as the mathematical foundations the book concentrates on the technical applications of continuous-time and discrete-time fractional calculus, investigating the identification, analysis and control of electrical circuits and dynamical systems. It also presents the latest results.Although some scientific centers and scientists are skeptical and actively criticize the applicability of fractional calculus, it is worth breaking through the scientific and technological walls. Because the “fractional community” is growing rapidly there is a pressing need for the exchange of scientific results. The book includes papers presented at the 9th International Conference on Non-integer Order Calculus and Its Applications and is divided into three parts:• Mathematical foundations• Fractional systems analysis and synthesis• System modelingSeven papers discuss the mathematical foundations, twelve papers address fractional order analysis and synthesis and three focus on dynamical system modeling by the fractional order differential and difference equations. It is a useful resource for fractional calculus scientific community.

Mathematicians have devised different chaotic systems that are modeled by integer or fractional-order differential equations, and whose mathematical models can generate chaos or hyperchaos. The numerical methods to simulate those integer and fractional-order chaotic systems are quite different and their exactness is responsible in the evaluation of characteristics like Lyapunov exponents, Kaplan-Yorke dimension, and entropy. One challenge is estimating the step-size to run a numerical method. It can be done analyzing the eigenvalues of self-excited attractors, while for hidden attractors it is difficult to evaluate the equilibrium points that are required to formulate the Jacobian matrices. Time simulation of fractional-order chaotic oscillators also requires estimating a memory length to achieve exact results, and it is associated to memories in hardware design. In this manner, simulating chaotic/hyperchaotic oscillators of integer/fractional-order and with self-excited/hidden attractors is quite important to evaluate their Lyapunov exponents, Kaplan-Yorke dimension and entropy. Further, to improve the dynamics of the oscillators, their main characteristics can be optimized applying metaheuristics, which basically consists of varying the values of the coefficients of a mathematical model. The optimized models can then be implemented using commercially available amplifiers, field-programmable analog arrays (FPAA), field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA), microcontrollers, graphic processing units, and even using nanometer technology of integrated circuits. The book describes the application of different numerical methods to simulate integer/fractional-order chaotic systems. These methods are used within optimization loops to maximize positive Lyapunov exponents, Kaplan-Yorke dimension, and entropy. Single and multi-objective optimization approaches applying metaheuristics are described, as well as their tuning techniques to generate feasible solutions that are suitable for electronic implementation. The book details several applications of chaotic oscillators such as in random bit/number generators, cryptography, secure communications, robotics, and Internet of Things.
