Abstract: An important query for the book Nordic ManagementLabour Relations and Internationalization is whether there has been any convergence towards the American or AngloSaxon neoliberal model for managementlabour relations or not, model which is rather hostile to corporative industrial relations in general and trade unions in particular. The result, however, is that although private and public management have introduced different flexibility reforms and international human resource management (HRM) models in all Nordic countries, the strong managementunion cooperation has remained relatively intact, both centrally and locally. Contrary to many other countries unions and employees have often been positive to competence development, participation and flexible assignments, which were part of unions' codetermination policy of the 1970s aiming for workers to act as equal partners. The book covers different aspects and themes of the global influence on Nordic working life: A theoretical introduction to convergence versus divergence regarding industrial relations and Nordic managementlabour relations; Influence of international HRM policies in Nordic multinational companies and on national IR systems studied in four chapters: in Norway; in Sweden; in Malaysia and Singapore; in European Works Councils; Flexibility strategies and consequences for industrial relations in Sweden; Individualization of salaries in the Danish public sector; Industrial relations and occupational health and safety; Increasing malefemale employee difference regarding IR strategies

Examines the main characteristics of the labour relations systems in the Nordic countries (except Iceland). Labour union movement has a great impact on these systems due to high rates of affiliation among workers and this text presents new aspects on the Nordic model for labour relations.

An increasingly competitive environment can lead to considerable problems for many organizations as they struggle to adapt to change. As a result, they fail to create the conditions that can lead to sustainable development over the long term, thus affecting the capabilities of employees. This book provides a fresh perspective on sustainable change and development in organizations, as well as a critical perspective on lean implementation, work environment and sustainability. The expert contributors address the development in, and of, organizations, as well as the development process between organizations, such as in networks or clusters. They discuss topics, such as the role of customers in the development of public organizations; developing knowledgeable practice at work; exploring evidence-based practice and the challenge of regional gender contracts. Undergraduates and postgraduates in different management fields including organizational theory, innovation, human resources, quality development and entrepreneurship will find this book to be of interest. The empirical results and interdisciplinary approach will appeal to practitioners and policy-makers at national, as well as international levels.

The project identified good Nordic management practices by analysing Nordic research on management, working conditions, and productivity. The project identified 2760 publications combining these topics and analysed in detail 38 core publications combining all three topics. The main findings were: 1. Nordic research that combine all three topics is limited in extend but broad in content and therefore fragmented 2. Values related to cooperation and participation permeated the publications, which sets them apart from EU and US publications. 3. The core publications identified positive relations between management practices, working conditions and workplace performance 4. Positive management practices are characterised by dialogue and cooperation between managers and subordinates. The research was conducted in 2012-2014 at Aalborg University, SINTEF, VTT, and Karlstad University.

Since 1996 a growing number of European employees have access to a European works council (EWC), a transnational employee body designed to complement national forms of labour representation . This volume brings together a hep hive of contributors who present valuable new insights into how employee representatives from different European countries perform their jobs as members of European Works Councils in an attempt to develop some sense of a common European labour identity The transnational character of the EWC makes it an ideal microscopic structure through which the wider discourse surrounding identity – especially when associated with globalization, Europeanization, and mobility – can occur. ‘Towards a European Labour Identity’ examines not only the workings of the EWCs, utilising individual case studies, but also analyses and asses the link with the broader discussions on European identity as well as European trade union co-ordination and solidarity.

Changing Industrial Relations in Europe is the second edition of the influential and widely used textbook, Industrial Relations in the New Europe. As with the earlier edition, the book will be a definitive text and reference for all students in industrial relations and human resource management looking at international issues.
