Children are introduced to count in an innovative way: by watching Max and Josephine tend their garden, counting from 1 to 10 as it is planted and from 10 to 100 (in tens) when it is harvested. Besides beans and corn, the children count bees, ants, worms, butterflies, and other outdoor creatures. Bold, colorful illustrations accompany the text.
