Peter Hince spent 13 years as head roadie for Queen. His collection of photographs and ephemera from the band’s personal and public moments will finally see the light of day for the first time. It’s a unique photographic record of one of the most celebrated rock bands of all time. From concerts in Munich to Japan, Hince follows Queen from studio to street to stage. Facsimiles of handwritten notes from recording sessions, photos of the band in the studio, images of cassettes given to Hince to debut at clubs, Freddie Mercury with and without a mustache . . . the list goes on. Along with many candid moments are great photos of the various items collected from more than a decade of tours: backstage passes, matchbooks, set lists, and more.

Imagine being alongside one of the greatest bands in the history of rock, touring the world and being there as they perform at some of the best and biggest music venues in the world. Peter Hince didn't have to imagine: for more than a decade, he lived a life that other people can only dream of as he worked with Queen as head of their road crew. In 1973, Queen was the support act for Mott the Hoople, for whom Peter was a roadie. Back then, Queen had to content themselves with being second on the bill and the world had not yet woken up to the flamboyant talent of Freddie Mercury. Peter started working full time for Queen just as they were making A Night at the Opera, the album which catapulted them to international stardom. In this intimate and affectionate book, Peter recalls the highlights of his years with the band. He was with Freddie when he composed 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love'; he was responsible for making sure that Freddie's stage performances went without a hitch - and was often there to witness his famed tantrums! He was also party to the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll which are invariably part of life on the road with a rock band.

An archaeological dig uncovers the secret history of Toronto’s long-forgotten first immigrant neighbourhood. In early 2015, a team of archaeologists began digging test trenches on a non-descript parking lot next to Toronto City Hall -- a site designated to become a major new court house. What they discovered was the rich buried history of an enclave that was part of The Ward -- that dense, poor, but vibrant 'arrival city' that took shape between the 1840s and the 1950s. Home to waves of immigrants and refugees -- Irish, African-Americans, Italians, eastern European Jews, and Chinese -- The Ward was stigmatized for decades by Toronto's politicians and residents, and eventually razed to make way for New City Hall. The archaeologists who excavated the lot, led by co-editor Holly Martelle, discovered almost half a million artifacts -- a spectacular collection of household items, tools, toys, shoes, musical instruments, bottles, industrial objects, food scraps, luxury items, and even a pre-contact Indigenous projectile point. Martelle's team also unearthed the foundations of a nineteenth-century Black church, a Russian synagogue, early-twentieth-century factories, cisterns, privies, wooden drains, and even row houses built by formerly enslaved African Americans. Following on the heels of the immensely popular The Ward: The Life and Loss of Toronto's First Immigrant Neighbourhood, which told the stories of some of the people who lived there, The Ward Uncovered digs up the tales of things, using these well-preserved artifacts to tell a different set of stories about life in this long-forgotten and much-maligned neighbourhood.

The classic tale of royal conspiracy and forbidden romance during the sixteenth-century French Wars of Religion by the author of The Three Musketeers. Paris, 1572. For a decade, French Catholics and Protestant Huguenots have been locked in a violent struggle for control of France. Though King Charles IX reigns, it is his mother, Catherine de Medici, who holds sway. In a gesture of peace, Catherine arranges for her daughter Margot to marry the Huguenot king of Navarre, Henri de Bourbon—while secretly arranging the slaughter of thousands of Protestants gathering in Paris to celebrate the wedding. Caught in the merciless machinery of court intrigue and married to a man she does not love, Margot begins an illicit affair with a Protestant soldier. Written in 1845 and based on true events, this classic historical romance has been adapted into several films, including the Cannes Jury Prize–winning Queen Margot starring Isabelle Adjani and Vincent Perez.

The novel's protagonist is Marguerite de Valois, better known as Margot, daughter of the deceased Henry II and the infamous scheming Catholic power player Catherine de Medici. Catherine decides to make an overture of goodwill by offering up Margot in marriage to prominent Huguenot and King of Navarre, Henri de Bourbon, a marriage that was supposed to cement the hard-fought Peace of Saint-Germain. At the same time, Catherine schemes to bring about the notorious St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre of 1572, assassinating many of the most wealthy and prominent Huguenots who were in the largely-Catholic city of Paris to escort the Protestant prince to his wedding... Alexandre Dumas, père (1802-1870) was a French writer whose works have been translated into nearly 100 languages and he is one of the most widely read French authors.
