Regulations And Their Impact On The Automotive Industry

To these belong simple regulations for emissions, subsidies for specific car forms but not at last also political decisions and developments all over the world. This paper describes some of the important developments over the last decades and their influence on the automotive industry. Furthermore, it is tried to identify learnings from these past developments and future potentials for improvement.

Study of government policy and regulations affecting the motor vehicle industry in the USA - considers the industry's market, profitability, competitiveness, etc.; comments on legislation with regard to standards for vehicle safety, air pollution and fuel economy (energy conservation); presents a cost benefit analysis of production costs, automobile maintenance, mortality related to road traffic, etc., following the application of the programmes; discusses conflicting goals of regulations. Graphs, references, statistical tables.

Analyzes the performance of the industry after the North American Free-Trade Agreement took effect, in each of the three countries and on the continent as a whole. Also looks at the impact of environmental regulations. The studies were funded by automobile companies and reviewed by personnel representing them.
