Research And Publication Ethics

Researchers, authors, sponsors, editors and publishers all have ethical obligations with regard to the publication and dissemination of the results of research. Researchers have a duty to make publicly available the results of their research on human subjects and are accountable for the completeness and accuracy of their reports. All parties should adhere to accepted guidelines for ethical reporting. Negative and inconclusive as well as positive results must be published or otherwise made publicly available. Sources of funding, institutional affiliations and conflicts of interest must be declared in the publication. Philosophers and other humanists do make use of the existing standards and core principles of research integrity. Core principles such as reliability, honesty, respect, and accountability are generally embraced in the humanities. There are various forms of unethical practices that authors resort to, sometimes intentionally and occasionally by accident. Being aware of publication ethics enlisted herein will help readers to consciously avoid such misconduct and perform honest ethical research and pursue publications. Publishers reported having a perception that humanities journals tend to be more reactive than proactive in developing publishing practices. The publishers' perception here is consistent with our observations in our earlier focus groups that few editors of philosophy journals had clear procedures for handling potential misconduct claims - and those who did were often affiliated with journals that have had to deal with such issues in the past. Editors or board members should not be involved in editorial decisions about their own scholarly work. Journals should establish and publish mechanisms and clearly defined policies for handling submissions from editors, members of their editorial boards, and employees.

In recent era scholars are often facing a regulations/guideline evolved for academics by various statutory bodies/ institutions. The scholars have to cope up with it and consistently keep their learning pace optimum. The idea of this book developed through in tune with the scholar’s quarries regarding the Ph.D. process.Thus, this book took shape with keeping all those quarries/ ideas of scholar’s in center. The third chapter provide the orientation towards approach of research with scientific conducts and misconducts. This chapter is essentially integrating in research process with focus on plagiarism. The fourth chapter of this book is solely based on publication ethics, which exclusively focuses on ethical behaviour towards the publication of research for authors, contributors, scholars etc. this chapter also gives overview to the reader on different violation of publication ethics and predatory publication as well. The Fifth chapter prepared by regarding various databases and a table of comparison based on various categories of research/academic terminologies.

Preface The purpose of writing this book is to clarify the proper approach to the discussion and study of research integrity and publication ethics in medical research; this will include a code of ethics for academics, as well as cover plagiarism and intellectual property rights. At present, there is a lack of robust agreement on the degree of empirical scientific evidence for specific problems that frequently undermine integrity in research, leading to research misconduct. There is also scant knowledge about publication ethics, for which publication of a definitive code is required. In addition, many instances of what may appear to be fabricated evidence or falsified data have arisen due to a lack of knowledge about best practice rather than intentional fraud. A valuable resource is needed to support and define collaboration between research scholars in this field, and to recognize the boundaries and principles involved. This book seeks to establish a firm knowledge base to address issues arising from research integrity, publication ethics, plagiarism, and protection of intellectual property. It wishes to act as an important guideline for research students for which, at present, there is a notable absence. Key individuals who will benefit the most from this book are qualified professionals involved in the field of medical research; that is, clinical researchers, research students, and scientists. The general public, who need to place complete trust in research integrity, may also be interested in further understanding a topic that is all too infrequently discussed and rarely in the public domain. Scientists are expected to occupy the high moral ground when it comes to the search for truth, especially in regard to the human body. Cases of misconduct tend to hit the headlines due to this very fact, which is why it is imperative that the target audience is as wide as possible to effect transparency on the subject.
