Matthew 5-7, popularly known as the Sermon on the Mount, has been described as "the essence of Christianity" and inspired many commentaries. However, New Testament professor Charles Quarles believes a fair number of those volumes either present Christ's sermon as containing an impossible spiritual ethic or instead dilute its message so much that hardly any ethical challenge remains. Also concerning, a recent Gallup poll indicated only onethird of American adults recognize Jesus as the source of this teaching that has often inspired people who do not even embrace evangelical Christianity. Quarles' new analysis, part of the New American Commentary Studies in Bible & Theology series, aims to fill the gap between these extremes by dealing with the important questions of whether believers can live by the Sermon on the Mount today, and, if so, how. Looking at the Beatitudes, what it means to be salt and light, and the demand for superior righteousness, he writes to restore this crucial section of our Lord's teaching to its proper place in His church.

This book examines the struggle for Protestant consensus and unity through the work of John a Lasco (1499-1560). It is only in recent years that scholars have begun to recognize the importance of Lasco as one of the leading figures of the European Reformation, and a pivotal figure between Lutheran and Reformed theologians. The Polish reformer was among the most dynamic church organizers of the sixteenth century, dedicated to healing the divisions among evangelicals and searching for the key to Protestant unity in the example of the Apostolic Church. It was to this end that he published the Forma ac ratio in 1555, a work that recorded the rites and practices of the London Strangers' Church (of which he had been the first superintendent) and to provide a model for uniting the disparate Protestant communities on the Continent. Although some recent works have focused on aspects of Lasco's early career in Germany and England, this is the first book to provide a comprehensive analysis of the Forma ac ratio, and the reformer's reasons for writing it. This study also puts Lasco's distinct model for Protestant churches into the wider European context and assesses his impact on the struggle for unity through an examination of his correspondence, the reaction to his writings, and his influence on Protestant congregations across Europe.

Greg S. Baker delivers a poignant and thought-provoking examination of the depth and struggles of a fallen Christian and the effort needed to help restore them back to the loving embrace of Jesus Christ. There has been much written on winning the lost to Christ, but very little focuses on those who have fallen away from Christ--and how to get them back. Restoring a Fallen Christian fills a gaping hole in Christian literature. The principles come straight from Scripture to provide insightful, practical, and thorough instructions to help bring someone back to Jesus Christ. We hear of tragic stories everyday of Christians who have fallen away, but the effort in bringing them back have become a hurdle for the church and a challenge for every believer. In many cases, these fallen Christians can and want to come back. Often, though, we don't know where to start or how to proceed in helping them be restored--and that is the point of this book. We are commanded to restore those who have fallen away. Greg S. Baker uses his experiences as a pastor and counselor to shed light on this sensitive subject. People fall away for many reasons, and he tackles most of them to provide the widest range of tools available to the Restorer. This book is a must-have for every Christian. If you don't need it now, there may come a time when you do.

From opening the readers eyes to the deceitfulness of blind faith to untying the Gordian knot known as the battle of the sexes, the first half of this highly readable and spiritually encouraging book tackles head-on a series of false teachings being unwittingly propagated by many churches as "biblical Christian beliefs." Then, the second half of the book explores the Way of Freedom for the Christian as God has intended it. It shows how disregard for true biblical teaching on spiritual laws leaves the genuine Christian bent down and enslaved to spiritual forces of curses, castration and eternal condemnation all of which await those who try to impress God through their own righteousness. Every chapter brings Gods Word, rightly divided and rightly applied, against common church teachings that have brought misery and pain into the Christian experience. And every chapter brings the soothing, cleansing balm of Gods Truth to every weary and heavy-laden believer restoration for the soul of every genuine Christian who is Ready To Be Healed!
