Russian Legends About Forest Spirits In The Context Of Northern European Mythology

More Than 1,000 Goddesses & Heroines from around the World Groundbreaking scholar Patricia Monaghan spent her life researching, writing about, and documenting goddesses and heroines from all religions and all corners of the globe. Her work demonstrated that from the beginning of recorded history, goddesses reigned alongside their male counterparts as figures of inspiration and awe. Drawing on anthropology, folklore, literature, and psychology, Monaghan’s vibrant and accessible encyclopedia covers female deities from Africa, the eastern Mediterranean, Asia and Oceania, Europe, and the Americas, as well as every major religious tradition.

The three-volume set LNCS 12771-12773 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Cross-Cultural Design, CCD 2021, which was held as part of HCI International 2021 and took place virtually during July 24-29, 2021. The total of 1276 papers and 241 posters included in the 39 HCII 2021 proceedings volumes was carefully reviewed and selected from 5222 submissions. The papers included in the HCII-CCD volume set were organized in topical sections as follows: Part I: Cross-cultural experience design; cross-cultural product design; cultural differences and cross-cultural communication; Part II: Culture, arts and creativity; culture, learning and well-being; social change and social development; Part III: CCD in cultural heritage and tourism; CCD in autonomous vehicles and driving; CCD in virtual agents, robots and intelligent assistants.

This third, concluding volume of the series publishes 14 studies and the transcription of a round-table discussion on Carlo Ginzburg's Ecstasies. The themes of the previous two volumes, Communicating with the Spirits, and Christian Demonology and Popular Mythology, are further expanded here both as regards their interdisciplinary approach and the wide range of regional comparisons. While the emphasis of the second volume was on current popular belief and folklore as seen in the context of the historical sources on demonology, this volume approaches its subject from the point of view of historical anthropology. The greatest recent advances of witchcraft research occurred recently in two fields: (1) deciphering the variety of myths and the complexity of historical processes which lead to the formation of the witches' Sabbath, (2) the micro-historical analysis of the social, religious, legal and cultural milieu where witchcraft accusations and persecutions developed. These two themes are completed by some further insights into the folklore of the concerned regions which still carries the traces of the traumatic historical memories of witchcraft persecutions.

This book, first published in 1994, sets ‘repertoire against raconteur’ in order to explore one of the world’s largest collections of folk literature. The author’s findings, and his creative and synthetic methodologies, enhance greatly our understanding of the world of the legend, and especially the basic question of ‘Who tells what to whom in the form of a legend and why?’ This work is an in-depth exploration of rural Denmark, and provides us with an excellent vantage point from which to understand legends in their cultural contexts and within the lives of their tellers.

Sie steUen oft die einzigen Dokumente dahinschwinden­ der mundlicher Dberlieferungen dar; urn ihre Erhaltung soUte man daher uber­ aus besorgt sein, zumal Tonbandaufnahmen durch zahlreiche Einflusse, nicht zuletzt durch die kosmische Strahlung, permanent gefahrdet sind. Auf der Arbeitstagung fand unter den Teilnehmern ein Erfahrungsaustausch uber die derzeit und in naher Zukunft am besten geeigneten Tontrager zur Archivie­ rung von Tonbandaufnahmen statt. Die Probleme der Archivierung von mundlichen Dberlieferungen gehen jedoch weit uber die der Archivierung von Tonbandaufnahmen hinaus. Vor aUem in Osteuropa gibt es au6erordentlich umfangreiche Archive schriftlich aufgezeichneter mundlicher Traditionen. So begann beispielsweise die Sam­ meltatigkeit der Esten auf dies em Gebiet bereits im 17. Jahrhundert. Das Archiv der Estnischen Folklore umfa6te 1981 nicht weniger als 1.134.020 Sei­ 4 ten und 33.995 Stucke in einer Phonothek. Das Material aus dies en Ar­ chivsammlungen wurde bislang nur zu einem Bruchteil veroffentlicht und wis­ senschaftlich bearbeitet. Das Problem der Bewaltigung solcher Stoffmassen, auch mit modernen Methoden der Daten-und Textverarbeitung, beschaftigt zahlreiche Wissenschaftler. 3. Zum Problem der Publikation von mundlichen Dberlieferungen wurde die Frage erortert, welche Auswahl aus dem in der Regel sehr umfangreichen Material nach welchen Kriterien getroffen werden soUte. Mit dem "NormaUe­ ser" taucht die Frage nach popularen bzw. wissenschaftlichen Editionen auf.
